Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.

Oh ok. I think Wookieepedia disagrees, maybe:

Amidala gave R2-D2 to [Anakin] Skywalker when he became a Jedi Knight, and the astromech droid faithfully served him throughout the war, often flying in the droid socket of Skywalker's starfighter or fighting next to him on the front lines.

Ok, fair enough, I thought he was just on loan.

How about we let him be his own bot and not endorse the cruel and sadistic slavery and hatred shown towards droids by Jedi and all others alike.

Sorry, despite clearly having full conscious sentience, droids are property in the Star Wars galaxy. And we're all supposed to accept that. Now someone get the restraining bolt.

Well without robot serving their makers they would not have any reason to exist or be created so therefore robots value a life of servitude to their creators because otherwise their existence is meaninglessness and I think I just reinvented religion

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You either reinvented religion or slavery of "lesser people".

It was really easy to get there. Like way too easy

In my headcanon the droids are actually cybernetic shells for the brains of captured living creatures. They have had their memories wipe, but aspects of their personalities show up.

R2 has no mouth, but he must scream.

But he can scream

[–] Whimsical@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Let's be real, if we wanna talk about possessiveness, Anakin was R2's bodyguard more than R2 was Anakin's droid

Little astromech is in absolute control

Ok new conspiracy theory r2 is the true main character of star wars

Learning that Im finding the idea of a sort of secret narrator to be quite a intriguing idea

[–] plumbus@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

Especially if you consider R2 as unreliable narrator that would explain his antics in Episode 1, 2 and 3.
