How do you explain it? (discuss.online)
submitted 1 year ago by jgrim to c/fediverse

I'm trying to come up with a simple way to explain how it works. How to describe data masters and such.

How do you explain it to people? I see many very long posts or huge infographics that are too overwhelming to catch someone's interest. I want to make it simple.

Elevator-pitch type stuff with pictures.

The thing I'm really struggling to understand is how is it possible (if at all) to see which Lenny instances are connected to any specific lenny? Its not just "Federated" or "Not federated" right? I'm looking for a Lenny which is an "A" IE connected to most if not all other instances. But it just seems like its hidden and you sort of have to figure it out by browsing the communities tab but even then its not clear.

Welcome

Let's talk about the fediverse.

The fediverse is a collection of community-owned, ad-free, decentralised, and privacy-centric social networks.

Each fediverse instance is managed by a human admin. You can find fediverse instances dedicated to art, music, technology, culture, or politics.

Join the growing community and experience the web as it was meant to be.

A community dedicated to fediverse news and discussion.

Fediverse is a portmanteau of “federation” and “universe”.
