And we shouldn't allow this concept to go unchallenged here on Lemmy.

Commenting on an active post is not brigading

Posting a link to something is not brigading

Commenting on something you were linked to is not brigading

The only thing that might be brigading, but isn't because it isn't a real thing, is someone explicitly going, "Hey everyone, go here and harass this person"

It's all fine and good that we have some new rules to keep the peace with other instances but we must fight against reddit-logo brainworms

I think there's probably a good argument for not going easy on liberalism, ever, because if the roles were reversed they would not give us any room to grow and they would not hesitate. I think there's probably a fine line between showing no mercy and coming across as toxic and giving them an excuse to defederate so no idea what the right call is tbh shrug-outta-hecks

"We have no compassion and we ask no compassion from you. When our turn comes, we shall not make excuses for the terror."

I think a step back from siege mentality when interacting with other instances is probably strategic. Assume good faith until proven otherwise. "Bullying works" is a vibe that I think is more often than not inaccurate. Rather, it's a fun and effective way to interact with trolls and wreckers. Meanwhile we should project a willingness to go above and beyond to foster good-faith discussion with those willing to have it.

Assume good faith until proven otherwise.

A lot of people are proving otherwise with their first reply.

And frankly I don't want to try to lead all of these grown ass adults out of the brambles of Capitalist brain worms by the teeth starting from first principles every day in every single conversation. We'll spend the rest of our lives trying to teach adult children on what is for the most part the only place on the Anglophone internet where you can be an ML without being screamed at by very ignorant people.

I cannot emphasize enough that Hexbear is one of, if not the, only safe harbor for commies that's actually active and interesting.

It's also one of the few pillars of counterculture within its sphere, which is why I think it's important that we don't squander whatever potential it may have.

False consciousness has to be deconstructed wherever possible. We must never stop explaining sankara-shining

As much as I understand the want for a safe place to hang out, as much as I personally enjoy being able to let my guard down when I'm on here, this kind of stuff is about as close as you can get to important when it comes to social media.

I'm very proud of the comrades who've gone to tremendous lengths to engage these people in good faith. Doing so serves multiple purposes: either convincing the person to think differently, or convincing readers to think differently, or if nothing else casting a shadow of doubt on readers' confidence in red scare propaganda and mischaracterizations of communists.

In the lemm.ee meta thread there was an obstinant fuck that refused to engage in good faith (turned out he was a landlord, go figure), but the users engaging him with well-sourced claims and counterclaims elevate people's perceptions of leftism in general. It wasn't for him, it was for the average working class liberals reading the hot new drama.
