%3 tariff on all US goods. Then add another %3 after 4 months (why? I dunno, this is all stupid anyway), then again 4 months after that! Slowly cook it. Use the extra money made to put towards supporting the workers that lost their jobs. Put additional money towards the 2% nato target - maybe make it 4% instead.
Does this sound stupid? Instead of all out matching their percentages, slowly and methodically eat away over time, targeting the red states. Then eventually, when we hit around 25% on US goods from red states, start again with the same strategy with the blue states. Why not? It's all stupid. But, if we're going to take a massive hit, might as well stave off the blow for Canadians for a while until we can find alternatives and maybe get manufacturing going and more trade.
