The problem with this type of thinking is that eventually, there are no more places to run to. If you live in America, and you are looking to move somewhere safe, there are few places that offer similar living standards. Even fewer countries can offer an upgrade to American living standards.

The only places that I can think of are western and northern Europe, China, Japan, Korea (not for long), Russia, Singapore, and Malaysia.

China is notoriously difficult to get citizenship in, even permanent residence is hard to get. Malaysia requires you to make an investment in the country (I forgot the dollar amount, but it's over 10k). Japan and Korea are safe for now, but likely in the coming decade (especially for the latter) things will get worse economically and militarily speaking. Singapore, might be the best option for Asia.

Russia will be hard to sell to Americans and euros bc of putin-wink and stalin-comical-spoon cold war propaganda. I don't think many westoids will entertain the notion of living in Russia.

Europe is probably the best option (in general) in terms of getting citizenship, safety, and living standards (no rolling blackouts, good healthcare access, low threat of famine, good chance for education, etc). It'll get harder for Americans to migrate to Europe, as more make the switch. Europeans will obviously not be happy with all the Americans showing up, and will ~~treat them well, and accept them peacefully into their society~~ bully them.

The destabilization of Europe at the hands of the country they're fleeing won't stop. Eventually European states will also join the list of countries that are not safe.

You could do pretty good with a lot of USD in Mexico or Brazil.

Those are absolutely not safe countries, they can and will fall to US meddling and destabilization. My point was that they're trying to flee to countries that are either not safe from US destabilization or have been destabilized.

It's like they're jumping off domino to domino, trying to not get crushed by the fall of the previous one they were on. It's just postponing the inevitable.

Aren't there quite a lot of rich expats on New Zealand? I know there was talk of lots of apocalypse bunkers there, but yeah overall it feels like the rats are trying to leave a sinking ship but all the lifeboats themselves are pretty compromised or tied to America if it goes down.

For the 0.1% sure, but if we're talking families with a household income of 300k then no.

Some millionaires and all billionaires will be safe, anyone not making that much money is low on options.

[–] Bloobish@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

True but it seems this article is specifically about capital flight of millionaires and above, people that can easily relocate. For those around 300k the only option that might be even remotely feasible is fleeing to Mexico or Vietnam where a lot of the upper middle class expats all go.

Russia will be hard to sell to Americans and euros bc of and cold war propaganda. I don't think many westoids will entertain the notion of living in Russia.

I doubt the veracity of any meaningful number of people emigrating over election results, but people moving to Russia is I think the most likely. There could be some weird Christo-fascists that like Putin's chauvinism and have enough money to live comfortably in a Moscow suburb.

Critical support to the euros for bullying the yankees
