This is just the beginning of a yearly subscription for Windows OS. Just wait.

[–] Default_Defect@midwest.social 41 points 5 days ago (1 children)

By offering extended support? Same as they've done since at least windows 95?

This is just the beginning of a thread of ragebait and misinformation. Windows has been doing this for yearrssssssss. Stop sensationalizing old news.

[–] hal_5700X@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago

Why will they do that? That will kill Windows.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 3 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Normies will pay. They aint got nothing to hide and they are not poor!

Quit being poor, mate

[–] fuckwit_mcbumcrumble@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Normies won't pay for this wtf are you smoking? They're just gonna let their computer not be up to date and not care.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They'll just let Windows update their system to 11

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Unless their machine doesn't meet the hardware requirements.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Then they'll just stop updating until they can afford a new computer. People who can't afford a computer that can run Windows 11 certainly aren't paying for security updates. So the guy I replied to is right.

Maybe you are right... This aint netlfix

[–] IrritableOcelot@beehaw.org 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

This isnt available to individuals anyhow, only to schools and businesses.

[–] toddestan@lemm.ee 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

It's actually available for individuals now, the first time Microsoft has done this. Though it isn't clear if Home versions most individuals would have is included, or if it's for the Pro version only.

[–] ZoeyBear@beehaw.org 2 points 5 days ago

This makes me want to downgrade to 10 and just pay for the subscription

[–] IrritableOcelot@beehaw.org 1 points 4 days ago

Oh interesting! I was reading something recently that said MS had clarified that it was for businesses only, but that must have been an old article.
