$115 for the Lifetime subscription? You must be fucking joking, I paid $35 last year for the Lifetime subscription to Reddit. The guy has changed probably ~10% of the code base to use a different site's API, this is just greed. Tis off to Mobilism I go for the cracked version so, cheers
True, pricing seems high considering most of the work was already paid for when it was a reddit client.
Imagine being this tilted over a dev wanting to make money after realizing he got hosed charging $30 for a lifetime.
I hope he makes it so you can restore the old purchase. Right now it says that it can't find any previous purchases for me, but I also bought lifetime ultra on the reddit app.
It's possible, but if he's suddenly charging $115 for something that was $35 and that also kinda gets you less then he's not exactly thinking logically. Or maybe he knows something about market forces that I don't? Charge triple the price and offer "less" and maybe the people will come?
He's a talented dev and I've been a long time supporter but he's really shitting the bed here
Reddit = 60000000 daily active users
Lemmy = maybe somewhere between 50k and 100k daily active users? I feel like that's being generous
It's just economies of scale. He's selling to a much smaller market
Yeah, don't forget about the grueling six weeks of development time too, it's practically Dickensian
This isn't a divorce proceedings, a judge hasn't mandated that I keep Lawrence in the lifestyle that he's become accustomed to. Not am I responsible for his bottom line, and tripling prices is probably going to hurt him because I assume a lot less people are going to pay it, just because it's triple the price for a lot less
Plus people who are inclined to get these lifetime subscriptions probably did already in the Reddit app 13 months ago so they're a little pissed off about that too, I would imagine. And the fact there has been no attempts to offer discounts or whatever. It's a swizz
I don't give a shit about $115, it's easy to make $115. It's just the principle. $50 might be different? I wouldn't need to think too long before buying that. Or $50 if you had a Reddit Lifetime subscription maybe
Add perpetual maintenance and updates to your list... Just because the framework was already there doesn't mean there isn't value in the product and the dev can decide what his time and product are worth. Just don't buy it and use something free.
I don't think you've been making that point based on your statements.
