Interest shaming almost always sucks ass tbh. A lot of adults who are still into Pokemon are autistic. UlyssesT has been (correctly, it turns out) worried about the weird shit being turned on people for just acting in ways that aren't considered "normal" socially which is like, inherently abliest?

So like, maybe come off it.

Most of that user's post history is obnoxious like that, with a vague pretense of irony when called out.

Yeah, the whole "weird" thing reminds me of rewarding conformity and punishing what the majority perceives as "deviance", which is like queer theory 101 "don't do this"

yeah the democrats are gross for that, as usual.

Also it seems like Pokémon is a very mainstream card game these days. I see a lot of families with kids where the kiddos get cheap cards while mom or dad goes for the higher end stuff. It's becoming an intergenerational hobby kind of like sports cards.

to me it seems like just another fad created for consumerism to make some people super rich by exploiting people's desire to play a game and turn it into an addictive consumerist obsession (constantly creating new characters to keep people having to buy new things to play/win, making limited edition consumer items, heavily marketing to vulnerable children just like mcdonalds used to do, etc).

but I am in favor of letting people enjoy things, so have fun. i'm not going to stop you.

Pokemon at least has a less predatory comp model than MTG where meta cards are always relatively accessible and the expensive ones are just alt art.

The very creation of the red/blue versions of the Pokemon games was a marketing attempt to boost sales by selling the exchange cable and create a sense of community and social interaction within the games.
