Hi guys! I am looking for a cordless drill to buy. Not a pro, just a husband doing things around the house like fixing shelves on hollow blocks/concrete, and assembling flatpack furniture. I am living in the middle east so options here might not be as much as in the US. Dewalt, makita, and bosch are readily available here. With some milwaukee tools in certain stores. Not really familiar with models and such, so recommendations on what specs to look for and which brand to buy will be very helpful. The cordless drill will be used to drill into concrete/Hollow blocks, and to drive screws into flatpack furniture. As for the budget, the cheaper the better, but I don't want it to be disposable, I want to get at least 2-3 years of life on it. Thanks!

I can’t decide between the Dewalt 20V with 800 ft-lbs of breakaway torque and the one with 1200. Love it or hate it, I already have Dewalt 20V tools so other brands are not an option. I’m a hobby mechanic who works on cars & trucks for fun. Price isn’t an issue. My concern with the 1200 is size & weight, with the 800 I’m worried it might under-perform expectations. I’ve been using an old Campbell-Hausfeld air impact for 20+ years and it just isn’t cutting it anymore. Any input? Thanks in advance!

Looking on the product pages for the 3M WorkTunes Connect and Pro-Protect, I see a lot of complaints of these earmuff headphones failing permanently. The most common modes of failure seem to be (in the case of the WorkTunes Connect) the USB charging port failing permanently or (in either) the Bluetooth pairing function failing. Has anyone else had issues like these? I recently had a Pro-Protect fail to pair (unpairing and resetting devices doesn't solve the issue) and wanted to see if other people had similar experiences. When I contacted customer service, they said they heard about this problem every day.

Their website is pretty unclear on this so I wasn't sure. If I have an older drill using 18v power connect that I need to replace the battery for, can I use the 20v max batteries or just have to find old batteries somewhere? Vice versa could I use their new tools with my older batteries? Thanks!

My friend is going to Japan in a few weeks and could buy me a few locally produced hand tools. Can you please recommend a ratchet screwdriver that takes 1/4" hex bits and a pair of wire strippers (not sure if "manual" or "automatic")? I could budget up to $100 in total for these. I looked around and saw a general recommendation for products by Anex, Engineer, Vessel; are they the best to look at for these tools at this price point?

Also, is there any other made in Japan hand tool I should get while I have the chance? I know, very broad question. If it narrows it down a little, I don't work any trades and live in Europe in an apartment, but like to do things around the "house".

Thanks for any tips!

I am looking for a chain connector that will release when the load exceeds a certain weight. Ideally I would be able to adjust the tension weight the connector could support but a fixed limit is acceptable too. Do you all know of something I could use for this? I couldn’t find a better sub to ask this in. Thanks in advance!

Putting on heavy gauge trim I quite often need to knock in a rivet even if I waller my initial hole out. I’d like to know if anyone knows about a right angle pop rivet gun with some sort of solid surface behind the head of the gun I can hit with my hand.

I inherited like over 100 mac/Matco/ snap on sockets from my transmission building grandfather.

These sockets are in great shape however 95% of them are caked internally with like 50 years of grease, dirt, etc.

I’ve tried dawn, and krud cutter, and I’ve gone through like 7 tooth brushes and I’ve only cleaned maybe a dozen of them. Is there any other option? I know dawn says not to soak overnight but these things could probably use it.

I have all the wrenches soaking in evaporust right now and plan on throwing the few rusted sockets in there after. But I want to get this grease out and idk if Walmart has enough brushes for me to clean all these.

The task appears simple, attach a 1/4" thick sheet of hard(ish) plastic to steel warehouse racking using #8 Phillips, wafer head, self drilling screws in some cases 8-10' up on a ladder. Seems easy enough but three of us have tried and all have struggled. Tried different power settings on an impact driver from low to high, including the one for self-drilling screws. The first problem is that the screws grabs the plastic and it rides up the screw. Ok, clamp the plastic in place pita but solves the problem. After that it seems that the slightest deviation from absolutely straight on causes the screw wonder, go off on an angle, the bit slips out, and you end up driving the bit into the plastic leaving a divot. Mr. George...

Tried a small pilot hole and that helps somewhat but is time consuming and driving the screw through the plastic can send it a bit off course, so it's not guaranteed to hit the pilot hole. I had Wera's Impaktor bit holder and it worked pretty well for driving wafer head screws but at least the one I had seemed like the bit holding part wasn't centered on the magnetic outer ring and the ring just chewed up screw heads and we're using black painted screws... I suppose a paint marker could cover that up but one more step.

Any suggestion, besides hiring more skilled workers.
