You're expecting them to work within the established system to make this happen. Dictators don't do that.

If you're connected to a device that has independent volume management, then you can max out the phone volume and still have it be too quiet.
I most often run into this with my speaker setup in my workout room if I forget to turn up the volume on the receiver before hopping on the treadmill.
But, the other reason to not go too high is the audio can start degrading if the volume is too high on your phone.

That's definitely a tough situation. You have to decide if standing by your friend is worth pissing off your family. I'd get your wife's input on things first, and if she supports you celebrating with a friend, do that.
But, I have oppositional defiance disorder, so I might not be the best person to speak on this. But, if a family member got pissed about me supporting a friend, if tell them to go get fucked.
As far as live shows go, it's definitely Tool, Pucifer, APC.
