Excuse my ignorance here. To what extent can this problem be simplified with DIDs or Decentralized IDs, rather than "federated accounts".

Take the example of Filpboard. I signed up to integrate #mastodon with #bluesky. Supposedly, they have AI to process two disparate systems. The result: Nada. Why? Because I have to put some verification HTML in a website.

I have a "domain name handle" that should allow two independent information sources to communicate. The same account, or DID, needs to work on both systems. I don't see that.

I am considering starting my own #kbin instance. I have concerns about escalating costs, moderation and legal liability.

What has been your experience?

Is a #kbin instance disconnected from the greater #fediverse a poor experience?

How comprehensive are #federated searches?

I am primarily interested in #kbin text search. I spent a couple of hours researching and experimenting with kbin. I was a little disappointed.

I would like to create a #kbin Magazine. I wonder how broad the reach would be. I want the search to be effective beyond my local site.
