Don’t put if off is my advice. Imagine putting it off last Trump election and having so many years of dysphoria. I had friends who held off for years and they regretted it.

Issue is that some sites just refuse to work saying you need to install a supported browser. Changing the user agent fixes this.

The crazy part is that the threat is real. Imagine not voting for Harris in the US because of perceived antitrust fears and ending up with 6 Trump Supreme Court justices who spend the next 40 years turning the USA into a Christian nationalist state.

What about gross speeding or drunk driving?

I think automation is an acceptable path. But I think we still would need some organization with legal authority. We can’t just fine people later for drunk driving. They need to be stoped asap even against their will. Same goes for people grossly speeding or even elderly people who can’t drive safely even though they think they can. Given your other posts this organization can be community lead. This being said any community lead organization with such a legal mandate would just be police under another name.

I feel safer with a German police officer than with an American one. This being said I can’t imagine an alternative tool. Anyone given the tools needed to stop and punish dangerous drivers would just be police by another name.

To be fair in Europe and even in the USA people don’t get shot when driving away.

If you go on YouTube and look at sovereign citizen videos you will see that even in the USA they just chase you down and maybe ram your car. Rough but not being shot for driving away.

In Germany they would just follow you from a safe distance till you eventually stop then arrest you for fleeing and dangerous driving.

Is Lemmy full of sovereign citizens now days? In all countries when you commit traffic violations you get a ticket.

Police do a lot wrong but enforcing driving safety is not one of those.

Ok. I’m curious now though. Do you choose to suffer unnecessarily as a joke on yourself? Is there a reason you choose to suffer when you don’t have to?

Like I can’t relate to your choice at all here and am very curious.

Ultimately it’s your life yah.

But I can’t help but think that adult humans don’t need to do penance and suffer for a year just because they made such a small mistake. It’s like a 12th century religious act.

I believe that adult humans can just learn not to do something without religious style self imposed suffering. If I burn my hand on the stove I don’t need to keep the wound in pain for a year in order to remember not to burn my hand again.

This all being said I am a humanist materialist. If people come from a spiritual background where self imposed suffering helps the soul I can see why they would do such a thing.

Hey. I’m going to ask why? Like if you are extremely tight financially I get it. But why make yourself suffer every day if it’s not needed? It’s going to be annoying and a slight negative to your day every day.
