The thing that initially got the gamer demographic onto the conservative bandwagon in the first place was when right-wing influencers got them convinced that it was the feminists that were coming for their games instead of the conservative and religious activists that had spent like 2 decades railing against heavy metal, D&D, rap and video games. Like 5 years before GamerGate the biggest gamer boogeyman was Jack Thompson. Maybe if someone finally actually did come for their treats for real there'd be another shift.

It'd sadly also lead to a lot of adult content creators getting financially hurt which still sucks though :/

The porn and violent video game bans are bad enough, but it gets worse. As I understand it, the plan goes something like this

  1. Make porn illegal
  2. Define anything LGBTQ-related as pornographic, thus essentially criminalising being visibly queer (the real point of the porn ban)

Some have warned it could get even worse

  1. Define exposing children to pornography as CSA
  2. Apply the death penalty to CSA crimes

Like the Republicans lean too heavily into enforcing their Christian culture war bullshit, ban GTAVI and obscenity and alienate the porn and video game-loving young dude demographic. Also Trump blows up the economy and then dies, Vance becomes president and conservatives become the lame fuddy duddy nerds that everyone hates again

Alternatively, Gen Z men have all become NoFap wahhabists and welcome the bans

spoiler

this speculation is very unserious

I can't even remember the last time I've seen someone say that

Tbh not a fan of how they wrote black characters in bioware other than admiral anderson.

Being voiced by Keith David helped immensely pog-fish

brainwashed harem runner

Oh christ I forgot about that part. I just remembered he abandoned Jacob when he was a kid. You can really feel that 2010 EA edge in ME2 michael-laugh

I did like Jacob better than whoever the meathead guy in ME3 was so he's not the blandest soldier guy in the series. Though if I'm being honest, I mostly just kept Garrus and Tali on my team for most of that game (and the third game too)

It was just shocking seeing a hexbear user just brazenly misgendering other users to their faces. Really disappointing to see

some random reactionary

That sort of troll would've just started blasting pure unfiltered hate speech by their second account

I think that was the argument- some people felt that having the only black party member in Mass Effect having his personal storyline revolve around an asshole absentee father was leaning into an unfortunate trope

Yesterday I posted a Polygon article about a guy being sued by Nintendo after he deliberately provoked them by sending them taunting letters after he got several accounts suspended on several different platforms for streaming pirated Nintendo games on emulators.

I mainly posted the news to just marvel at a guy just deliberately setting himself up to get his life destroyed by Nintendo's legal team for no apparent benefit, but there's an element to the suit I didn't notice.

Apparently one of the things Nintendo is suing him for is using Switch emulators and they're dusting off their legal arguments from the Yuzu case earlier this year, ie, all that shit about circumventing their TPMs violating the DMCA. If this goes to court Nintendo could get the legal precedent for making emulation illegal they didn't get from the Yuzu case since they settled

VERY COOL

I remember people arguing that his personal quest was racist

I just reflexively assumed us white millennials had ruined everything

I think it's absolutely valid to comment on the phenomenon of infantilised baby talk, we all rightly made fun of the fren types for that

Though I will agree the post you highlighted seems a bit mean. They just seem like very unremarkable embarrassing American liberals

January 6th but it's people posting screenshots of racist tweets with 5 likes on main

Keighin reportedly told Nintendo he had “a thousand burner accounts” and that he could “do this all day,” Nintendo alleged in the lawsuit.

In response to DMCA takedowns this guy apparently sent emails to Nintendo telling them he was just going to link people to mirrors of Yuzu and Ryujinx

Fuck Nintendo and the DMCA, obviously, but what a fucking dumbass

As someone who was into paranormal stuff when I was young and who used to watch way too much ghost hunting TV slop, "ghost hunting simulation but ghosts are actually real" is a great concept. I just don't like how quickly it escalates from bumbling around in a boring suburban home with a thermometer or EMF detector in your hand to a glitchy Unity store asset snapping your neck while playing creepylaugh.wav

From the jump you know you're dealing with a violent supernatural monster that WILL kill you and you're basically on a timer to find out which one it is using a simple process of elimination before you all die. I get that it's a game so you need Things To Happen but I would probably enjoy a slower, more methodical game that more closely emulated a paranormal investigation. Like you show up to a house and have a list of the paranormal activity that's been reported in specific rooms, then you go and set up your equipment to try to document it for yourself.

There definitely should be a threat of physical harm but IMO it should be less overbearing. Investigators being killed on the job being a completely regular and expected occurrence feels a bit absurd

From the Silent Hill wiki's profile on him:

Age: Around 24-26

pooh-wtf

I had always assumed him and Claudia (who was apparently 29) were solidly in their 30s. Like the dude is a priest in the Silent Hill cult's order and influential enough that he's managed to have a huge church built with money from donations

What's up with Japanese media and all these hyper-accomplished young people

While looking into this game I immediately noticed gamers trying to turn it into another front of the culture war by pitting it against the new AC game with the black samurai.

"See, Ubisoft? This is what REAL respect for REAL Japanese culture looks like," they say smugly while gesturing towards a game set in the United States that's a deliberately over the top and silly mashup of 80s and 90s Japanese pop culture and zombies in a ridiculous alt history premise made by a Chinese studio who explicitly said they are constructing the game purely out of stereotypes.

Who cares that Yasuke was an actual historical figure? This game has a replica of the inside pool that thousands of Japanese pornos were filmed at so-true

I hope the game doesn't get too co-opted by these people though, it looks a bunch of genuinely delightful garbage and is the first time in ages I've actually wanted to try a game that's coming out.

Also it's funny to see gamers now calling China and Chinese developers based after games like this and Black Myth Wukong. We're like one Chinese game with big anime boobs in it away from every gamer declaring their undying loyalty to the CCP deng-salute

For all the noise gamers, gooners and grifters made about Angela's face looking distractingly ugly, fat, masculine or just vaguely "weird," literally no one I've seen playing the game for the first time has noticed any of these supposedly blindingly obvious qualities. Just goes to show how this shit is just mass peer-inforced self-hypnosis

Sometimes you see streamers reading comments in their chat from gamers complaining about how ugly she looks and they're just confused

Dungeon Chill is back with another 1 hr+ long review mere weeks after the last one!

I played Rule of Rose earlier this year and I recommend you grab a ROM and give it a shot. It's got an incredible soundtrack and an emotionally effective story that had me legit sniffling in the end.

Sadly the gameplay is severely clunky and undercooked even by PS2 survival horror standards which might prove too much of a barrier for many

This commenter provided some really interesting context:

I could obviously never pick up on these sorts of details when I played the game since I don't speak Russian but it's cool to see Rockstar put in some serious effort in their NPC dialogue.

Also "They are strangers here." ussr-cry

His company name even had Super Mario in it data-laughing

No photos because I'm not a cop, but full support for this guy for appropriating Nintendo IP 07

I've been playing GTA Online again after a couple of years away and the game chat is absolutely brimming with casual Russophobia. GTA Online has always been a giant trash fire due to the toxic nature of the game and the fact that the vast majority of its players are children and maladjusted adults, but it's interesting to notice how hostile Europeans have become to Russian players, randomly calling them orcs or animals and asking them why they haven't been sent to die in Ukraine yet.

Of course, because everyone playing the game is an asshole, most of the Russian comebacks are snide remarks about Europe having a lot of African immigrants, but it's almost always NATO-brained Westerners picking fights with players with Russian names and not the other way around.

I'm sure the situation is very similar in most other multiplayer games, but to me it's interesting how Russians have taken the place Chinese players used to hold in GTA some years back before they were region-locked into their own servers as otherised enemies whom you vomit random talking points you picked up on the news at
