I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:

  1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
  2. Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
  3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.

I am also in the large button, small flush gang. I assume it's that way so the flush you use most frequently is bigger, but it does seem counterintuitive.

I used to have a cherry tree in my garden. I was sitting in the branches picking cherries, when I saw a blackbird (not an SR-71) sitting on the outer twigs eating cherries I couldn’t reach. He had a look in his eye that said “these are my cherries and there’s nothing you can do about it!”

Then a sparrowhawk took him out in front of me and ate him. That’ll teach him.

This is similar to an old joke about former British Prime Minister John Major. His father had been a circus performer, so it was aid that "he'd run away from the circus to become an accountant".

In the UK, The Scout Association went fully co-ed in 2007 and Girl Guiding remains a girls-only organisation. Both are doing just fine.

In the new interface, clicking the post title opens the subject of the post (e.g. the linked site or image), whereas the old interface takes you to the post. The only way of accessing the post itself is via the comments link, which is quite small on mobile.

My wife was a "Bikeability" (UK) teacher and this is how they teach people to cycle. Unfortunately there are too many entitled arseholes that can't bear to not be doing the speed limit 100% of the time. And I say this as a car driver.
