It's likely because there are a lot of things named Columbia in the US. District of Columbia, Columbia South Carolina, Columbia River, Columbia University, the space shuttle Columbia, and in Canada British Columbia.

It’s not possible to ignore words that were never actually said

He said it. “No, I never have,” Biden said when asked by a reporter on Wednesday if those discussions were taking place. “I don’t have any plans on one term.”

Form Feb 2020:

A voter at a CNN town hall in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Thursday night asked the former vice president, 77, if he would commit to serving only one term.
“No, I wouldn’t do that, but, I tell you what, you’re going to be able to make a judgment,” Biden said. “And, by the way, the two youngest people on the stage now are me and Buttigieg,” he joked, referring to 38-year-old former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, the youngest candidate in the race.

From Aug 2020

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said in a new interview he would “absolutely” be open to the possibility of serving two full terms in the Oval Office if elected in November.
“I think it’s a legitimate question to ask anyone over 70 years old if they’re fit, they’re ready,” Biden, who would be the oldest president ever elected, told ABC’s David Muir in an interview airing Sunday evening. “But … watch me.”
Muir mentioned the 77-year-old’s own description of himself as a “transition candidate,” and asked if that meant Biden was committing himself to a single term.
“No, it doesn’t mean that,” Biden responded.
“So you’re leaving open the possibility you’ll serve eight years?” Muir asked.
“Absolutely,” Biden responded.

Especially when his campaign staffers "leaked’ him saying he would be a 1 term pres privately.

If you read what they say you would find that they are offering their opinions on what he would do, and not relaying anything that Biden said.

For some reason you want to interpret him being a bridge as him saying he would be a short bridge. Bridges can be long. I have no idea why you placed any significance on that statement anyway. Biden being a bridge candidate to younger candidates is like me being able to go under a limbo bar when it is set 10 ft high.

His own words implied a one term presidency!

The only words we have of his about a one term presidency say he had no such plans.

All his campaign staff and media were saying so!

Four anonymous people offered their personal opinion. They did not quote Biden.

Yes, words have meaning. Biden said “I don’t have any plans on one term.” Why does some vague suggestion of being a 'bridge' get you to ignore those very easy to understand words?

[–] diverging@lemm.ee -2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

All the “Biden campaign sources” saying it.

Several anonymous sources said that they thought that he would not run again. Why do you believe anonymous sources opinions?

Is Biden not a "Biden campaign source"? Because he explicitly said he had no intention of running only one term.

And why have you abandoned your original claim of a Biden promise?

As I said in my edit: The bridge candidate stuff is just fluff to get people to not worry about his age, it doesn’t mean anything. It is certainly not a promise of anything.

Most people assumed that meant a 1 term presidency

Why do you consider something that people assumed to be a promise by Biden?

When he ran in 2020 he made it seem like he’d be one term.

How did you get that when he explicitly said he had no plans on one term?

I can’t believe you fall for his fucking lies.

What lies am I falling for? I always thought he would run for a second term, and then he did. You are the one that fell for the lies, thinking that he wouldn't run again.

Edit: The bridge candidate stuff is just fluff to get people to not worry about his age, it doesn't mean anything. It is certainly not a promise of anything.

According to four people who regularly talk to Biden, all of whom asked for anonymity to discuss internal campaign matters, it is virtually inconceivable that he will run for reelection in 2024, when he would be the first octogenarian president.

Anonymous sources offering their personal opinion are not Biden.

“No, I never have,” Biden said when asked by a reporter on Wednesday if those discussions were taking place. “I don’t have any plans on one term.”
