Just FYI - only two candidates are normal, sane folks. Steve Elia, and Karen Keehn are both former teachers in Bishop schools. Steve Elia is a former teacher at Bishop High, who pioneered the AVID program (to support first-time college aspiring students). Karen Keehn (a former Olympian) taught for decades at Bishop Elementary, and helped start Playhouse 395, the local theater company. Steve Elia is also an incumbent, and has a ton of experience on school budgets, and how to maximize student achievement. I hope Steve and Karen get elected.

The other two candidates are both MAGA culture warriors, and would only cause more COVID-era chaos, a la Moms for Liberty idiots. I hope they don't get in, as they're more concerned with obsessing over sex education, vaccine nonsense, and book banning.

Didja see it?

Yup, it's definitely Fall Colors season here in Bishop!

This is my new boss. She's worked at Mono County Office of Education for 17 years, so I know her well. I think she'll do a good job, so I was happy with the appointment.

It's important to elect sane people to your local school board, and not insane culture-warriors, so please take a look at the interviews. These three candidates are entirely normal, and NOT the ones you need to look out for.

Jason interviews Karen Keehn and Steve Elia for school board. Both are former teachers IN the district, and are excellent candidates who volunteer throughout our community, and have for decades.

For city council, Dennis Freundt, co-owner of the Bishop Grocery Outlet store, and is another perfectly sane candidate. I hope you hear what they have to say, and vote for sanity, and not some crazy idiot pushing conspiracies or culture-warrior BS.

Ditto! Was waiting for logins to get fixed on v.19x instances. Thanks so much!

That's good to hear. Looking forward to the actual release update, since I'm not on the beta, and therefore can't log into my home instance until that gets fixed. Appreciate hearing that part is fixed!

Thanks. I'm fortunate to live in the area, and just happened to be able to pull over and take this one. Not too bad for handheld, I think.

Yes, down for any v.19x instance for me as well. Avelon seems to be struggling to keep up. Had to switch to a different app to log into v.19x instances (using Voyager seems to work on any flavor instance right now). Been several weeks that Avelon is broken on v.19x instances…

Thanks - I've never been to Maine before, so this was a fun trip. It was a bit cloudy when I was there (although not raining), and the colors weren't as vibrant as they could be, so I made a choice to develop in black and white. But, here's on in color, from the same day...

Thanks to the dev. It’s by far the most polished Lemmy app for iOS right now , and I’ve tried just about all of them.

The pricing is like, a week of morning coffees, so I’m not really sweating it. And that $14.99 for a year is a great option at $1.25/month if thirty bucks will break you.

I’m happy to have bought pro lifetime, and glad you’ve put the number of hours in developing Avelon. I look forward to seeing how it matures.

Oh, just FYI, I LOVE that Avelon is portrait only while scrolling threads. I browse a LOT with the phone while on the couch, or lying in bed, and currently NO other app stays in portrait when sideways. I don’t know any savages who read in landscape. That’s rightly reserved for videos or wide photos, in my opinion. It took Christian YEARS to figure out a toggle in Apollo where you could lock to portrait while browsing text, and auto-rotate only for videos or landscape-only media. It was why I bought Apollo Pro lifetime, finally! But, here’s your Pro lifetime subscription from me, so thanks for making it the way I like it already… ;)

Cheers

Sadly, the article is mistaken (in terms of “failing”). They started an athletics program where none existed before, so they more than made up for lost academic students and replaced them with student athletes. New enrollment spiked so high, in fact, that hey actually had a housing shortage due to too many students, and had to provide emergency housing off campus in local hotels.

His plan worked for its intended purpose- to scare away any LQBTG identifying (or even LQBTQ tolerating) students and staff, and replace them with less tolerant people.

I had left a review on the App Store warning users that Memmy is still broken for any instance that uses late v18 or any v19. The dev responded that they would issue a fix soon.

Still, since I needed something that works, I tried a few of the many Lemmy apps. Voyager is nice, but Avelon is the only app that stays in portrait while I scroll lying down, so that’s what I’m using presently.

I have used a 50mm for street photography in the past, but sometimes it's just nice to be able to zoom, for better framing. I've used many bags over the years, but I'm currently using a Wandrd Prvke 31L bag as my daily carry (to work and back). So far, I'm liking it, as it easily carries my R5, 70-200mm, and 15-35mm zooms, and 16" Macbook Pro with the cables, power bricks, etc.

Yup, getting authentication errors on Memmy for iOS now, as well. I'm back to browser-based for now...

I usually have my 15-35mm lens on my R5 with me. I deliberately carry it (using a shoulder strap) on my evening walk with my dog, and occasionally find interesting to photograph compositions. I also use a combination photo bag (photography bag that also carries my work laptop and gear) so if I'm driving to work and come across something striking, I can get a photo of it...

Yes, I definitely have to take deliberate steps to keep my full-frame camera at hand more often than not. I always take it on my daily walks with the dog, and in my daily carry bag to work. Carrying it as a habit definitely made for capturing good shots I wasn't expecting...
