The Conservative strategy was clear: attack the New Democrats, whom a significant number of east Winnipeg voters have always liked, by going even harder on the Liberals, who have never enjoyed better than middling support in this corner of the city.

Running against one party by tying them to another was a novel strategy, U of M political studies professor Royce Koop said earlier this month.

"The Liberals are very unpopular. They're certainly not competitive in that seat," and so an attempt to tie the NDP to them "makes some sense," he said.

"But you don't see that all the time."

After what happened on Monday night in Elmwood-Transcona, you may never see it again.

Maybe he can play both...

Apparently it was an Ira Behr thing:

Ira Steven Behr has a fascination with the Battle of the Alamo and he and Hans Beimler included a reference in "Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night". Later, Ronald D. Moore and Rene Echevarria began to include references in their scripts. Some fans thought that the writers were hinting the series would end with a battle like the Alamo, which the writers had no intention of doing, having already featured such scenes in "The Way of the Warrior". (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p. ?)

Briggs could do it, no question.

I can't help but respect how utterly full of shit that man is.

Follow-up question: do we want to start one, in this space?

It will definitely be good to have Shirley back - her absence last season was very conspicuous.

Paramount Parks shut down way back in 2006, so if they don't want to try to re-enter that space (which I think would be financially...unwise), partnering with existing parks is probably the best move.

No idea - these things are often cast under code names, at least when it comes to TV and film, so it could be really hard to determine.

I'd say this is set up to be Kinew's first big policy failure, but I'm not sure whether it will stick.

The fact that opposition to the plan is fuelled by conspiracy nutjobs suggests that the Tories won't do much to oppose Kinew's decision, despite the fact that the plan was put together under the Pallister government.

Not enough knives.

I wonder if it will amount to a whole lot of nothing, with the municipalities that "opted out" complying with 99% of what's covered by the agreement anyway.
