Yeah I'm going with the board doesn't like the commercially tied investment deals from other companies.

Agreed, there are plenty of mail services that are geared for just sending only on your behalf. They'll make sure your mail is secure and actually gets to the recipient's mailbox instead of getting booted as untrusted spam.

I use forwarding service to send everything to my family's standard gmail accounts. Everyone just gets a full subdomain and short address.
