This is just so cool. Most practical? Not yet. But definitely great to see. Thanks for the share.

OG MW is still peak. The way the game comes together is better than the sum of its parts.

BUT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT Unbound.

I played though half of Heat around two years ago. And Ill say it suprised me how nice the driving and the world looked gorgeous, but I didn't get far. This was a great attempt at modernizing the franchise, and I think it set the groundwork well for...

Fast forward to 2024 and Im playing Unbound and loving it. The map is large, expansive, and fun to explore. I legit was able to start mapping it in my head the same way I would with MW. They have such a big range of cars from classic to modern. Alebit the body kit and overall customization is slightly lacking, there's enough variety that I find myself shopping for new rides because I want to.

And Unbound is dripping with that ASAP ROCKY, manga ass, trippy trap style that permiated the culture a few years back. The neon and drift visual effects I fuck with heavy, because it actually leans into that fun arcadey humor. The characters are cell shaded just like the overlaying style graphics, and I think it juxtaposes the photorealistic vibe if the cars and world well.

The open World Map is much improved too. Its literred with collectables, art to collect, mini world events (speed traps are BACK, along with hot lap and drift challenges). I don't think its as good as Rockford, but its good in its own right.

Im a little torn on how the game progression is set up. Essentially, the player gets a "week" to run races and escape from cops to earn as much cash as possible, upgrading your ride along the way, coalescing in a more important qualifier or story race on Saturday. The player can choose to participate in as many races during a day/night as they want before turning in all that cash at a Safe House, proceeding to the next day/night phase. Rinse and repeat. The player will have had to level up a car to a certain class of car (Classes are split into B, A, A+ S, S+), and the races a player can choose to take part in will fall into one of these categories. So its highly advised and even required to have a full stable of cars, not just get locked into one. For that I appriciate it, but this leads me to my next point...

The cop chases. Ugh. Early game they're fun and add a lot to the tension, especially when you have a shitbox for a car. But they feel less integrated into story mode than before, as you don't ever HAVE to really deal with the police in a mission sense. They exist and will always be there to pester you but that's just it - theyre more of a pest than fun. I could go deeper, but constant high level cop chases make me not want to keep playing some days.

The story is take it or leave it. Pretty run of the mill, but it didn't actively make me hate it either, so I would says that pretty fucking solid. You can completely ignore it, but its juuuust campy enough I've stayed involved.

Probably going to beat it this weekend, but overall, my thoughts are that I'm excited for the next one. Heat and Unbound FEEL like the first two in a mid-franchise trilogy, kind of like Resident evil 7 & 8, and I'm totally ready for the next one.

All I want to say is that Amtrak is definitely investing in maintaining current routes and expanding new ones. If you have an Amtrak station near you, expect it to be updated in the next 2-10 years if it wasn't recently. Also, more metro areas are in talks about expanding their connection to the system.

So are we experiencing a public rail renaissance in the US? No, but the ball is rolling.

In the meantime I have my bet on electric busses gaining more traction in California, and therefore the rest of the country.

Actually a decent read with some thought behind each statement.

Im a border Zillenial so I get to see both sides of this.

I recognize the older way of thinking, and I'm willing to go above and beyond because I personally love my job, but my younger cousins and siblings aren't so lucky. But the article is right they don't put up with any bullshit.

Rude manager trying to power trip? They gone.

Horrible inconsistent part time hours that won't provide stability? They gone and aren't willing to go through the system, work for years, only to get a promotion to AM and limit themselves that way.

Boss putting new responsibility's and expectations without performance acknowledgment or a raise? They gone, they didn't sign up for that without being paid for it.

They don't want to waste their life strggling and hating employment.

Life is worth living.

This might be a good move, but as someone who does construction design and is pretty consistently in the IBC, I'm hesistant to call it okay. The phrase "these building codes are written in blood" gets tossed around in my office, meaning that these safety codes are probably in place because of accidental deaths that happened.

Edit: I thought about it a bit more, and assuming that this has been properly reconsidered, this really could be a net win. The paranoid in me still likes more points of egress, but I can absolutely see this change happening.

Thats immediately how I played it; with my deck and the built in controller.

Wish the game kept me interested a little longer tho!

Anywhere my pets are. Without my dog I wouldnt have made it through college. The off leash dog park was our stress free zone.

Sorry things feel overwhelming right now. Especially when you're doing the right thing, reaching out. You got this.

I read the post rules and didn't see any other announcements of the Neopets TTRPG lmao. Remove if I broke the rules!

Anyways, this actually sounds like a lot of fun. Might lead to some creative scenarios, especially if your GM knows the deep and complex Neopets lore.

Hi there,

It seems that my midwest.social account has stopped showing the upvote count on posts and comments sometime over the last few days. My Lemmy.world and lemm.ee accounts show them fine still.

Ive tried logging out and back in and still no dice.

Anyone else having this bug?

Hey there.

Im working on a project for some software I want in the world. But I'm such a hobbyist that I've never thought of publishing any of my projects, but after doing so much work in it I kind of want other to have access to it after I feel its ready.

Whats the process of distribution? I guess I typically use github when interacting with FOSS community, but its still confusing for me to navigate as an end user sometimes, let alone being an uploader.

FWIW its simply a few python modules and other supporting txt and jsons. Targeting mostly Windows because that's what I use.

Thanks! (If this isn't the right place to ask please let me know!)

Edit: there are a bunch of great comments here! To clarify, I want to get it functional and somewhat bug free then fully upload everything so someone can see my idea and do it better. So I think I'm going to go with unlicense, because I don't really care about getting credit or getting contributions necessarily. Thanks all!

I just sent this email over to elegoo official, so either way I'll update this post with their response for a community reference point:

"Hello, I'm having issues with my Elegoo Neptune Pro 4. I've tried following the official documentation and other resources to help fix my issue to no avail, so I am reaching out as a last ditch effort.

My issue mainly pertains to PLA prints consistently being ruined partway during printing after a few months of use and operation.

Specifically, my print will successfully complete the first few layers. Then, at some point, the print will somehow 'grab' or 'catch' the print base and drag it around the print bed, ruining the print and causing a large build up of filament at my hotend. This then requires cleaning.

From what I have seen, this can be caused by issues with the print bed not being clean or the temperature of the bed in relation to the fan speed. For example, having a low fan utilization at the beginning, then ramping up later in the print is supposed to help this issue. However any fixes I tried returned null results.

Some background info, I purchased the printer on preorder and received it in September 2023. I have kept up with maintenance. Namely, keeping stepper motor tracks cleaned and greased properly, belts tightened, the print bed is wiped down with 90% ISO alcohol between prints. I have replaced the hot-end when I first started experiencing print issues, and again during the troubleshooting process to further diagnose the problem.   My Z offset seemingly is "correct". I followed the mfg instructions closely, and before this issue, my prints were coming out beautifully.

Print Settings: Using Elegoo brand PLA 1kg filament rolls. Default Elegoo Cura print settings applied for temperature, speed, fan speed, nozzle size, etc. Supports or No supports didn't make a difference during my troubleshooting. Brim printing mode is my default.

For the 4-5 months that I've had the Neptune Pro 4 has been absolutely amazing. Fantastic quality, consistent, very easy to use and maintain. The issues I'm experiencing are beyond annoying and I can't seem to figure it out myself.

Is this issue known? What are the recommended solutions?"

  • Let me know if any of you have experienced something similar to this and how you addressed it!

EDIT: This is likely solved. There are many issues that can contribute to this issue but TLDR quadrouple check your z offsets. Read the thread for other good info.

I may be preaching to the choir , but I just wanted to say THANK YOU to the instance moderators and owners.

I really appreciate the welcoming attitude that a lot of our threads hold. I really like the freedom of expression we can have, as well as the disagrements that have helped broaden my worldview. I love that this is slightly more currated to our location in the world, it really helps connect local news with the people that might miss it if you're only scrolling the large social media networks or countrywide news outlets.

I am definitely biased and might be unaware of some problems, but to me the content and members here actually make me want to participate in the conversation.

So uh... yeah. Thank you.

I can try to answer any questions, but it doesn't seem like the 8bitdo Ultimate software is availible for download yet. Im not big into mechanical keyboards, this is actually my first, so I don't have much direct comparison experience to other keyboards.

but the buttons are big and f u n.

Sounds fun.

So freaking adorable. Its been a little over a month, and she finally feels comfortable enough to come to my old man and pass out. Of course he's THRILLED about having a new bff. His face everytime she rubs against him is pure cheese.
