I used to spend loads of time on forums (mostly for metalheads), and also the late and great Barbelith.

Let the forum follow the function.

I'm a big fan of stonerrock and doom, and a lot of bands within those genres have a tendency to remain pretty much the same, musically, lyrically and atmospherically. Bands like orange goblin, fu manchu, nebula, weedeater, acid king, bongzilla, sleep, dopelord, conan, etc. do not change that much about their music over time. Which is fine by me, not all bands have to reinvent themselves to remain interesting to me.

Also, +1 for picking people up that fall down and holding up a shoe/pair of glasses/hat/etc. that you find on the ground.

The first time I went to a metal gig (Iced Earth) I lost my glasses and people actually stopped to help me look for them. Amazingly, they were unbroken.

this is the most important rule

1: No nasty spikes intended to harm 2: Someone falls, you pick em up 3: No aiming for the face 4: Don't keep in people who clearly want no part of the pit

So last week I ordered some new earplugs for concerts, bandpractice and such, and they have failed to arrive. I'm a pretty patient dude so I wait for a couple of days thinking it's just taking a bit longer.

Browsing through my mail I find out that they have apparently been delivered days ago.

Now the earplugs I ordered were clear, but I highly doubt they are invisible. No card was left in the mailbox, no "hey we delivered it at your neighbor's place even though you were home..." Checking the track and trace says it was delivered yet they are not.

I try not to assume malice, but I'm pretty peeved about this, and it has got me wondering what your experiences are with goods that have mysteriously vanished upon delivery?

Few things frustrate in the same way as technical difficulties, so I hope you don't have to suffer them for long. Here's to hoping you're fully on your digital feet again shortly!

  • doodling (it's both creative and a kind of meditation)

  • reading (physical books, usually before going to sleep)

  • playing bass (6 strings is too many)

  • TTRPG (preferably always in person)

Through the years I've noticed that quite a few Hollywood films play fast and loose with any other language than English.

I was watching Oppenheimer yesterday and the titular character was supposed to be speaking Dutch fluently, but the actual lines spoken were mostly jibberish, and more like German than Dutch. As a native speaker, I found this quite jarring and sloppy. Though I can imagine that to non-native speakers this would probably fly under the radar.

This got me thinking if there were more examples of shoddy translation, weird pronunciation, mishandling of language or dialect that you as a native speakers have noticed when watching movies?

The zen coin flip was the first thing I thought of when reading OP's post.

Like you states, it does not replace the act of choosing.

But you can gauge by your own reaction to the result of the coin flip, which option you think deep down is the best.

Thanks I'll give it a try!

Used to play a lot of RTS, both single and multiplayer. The last one I bought was the new AoE game. It did scratch a bit of the itch, but on the whole was a letdown. Before that it was Iron Harvest, which was visually pleasing but clunky. I am still looking for an RTS I can really get lost in.

Any recommendations?

You might like the game tyranny. Just finished playing it and it was quite enjoyable.
