Single tap should collapse the comment chain, however despite having the setting turned on, it now requires a long press. Single press only opens comment bar

ETA: must be my phone, have reset and resaved and now working

small annoyance, most likely easy fix by FatherBean in c/lemmyconnect@lemmy.ca

You can also use bottom bar and press home button

[Feature Request] Option to "Mark as read when image viewed" instead of comments viewed would be useful by FatherBean in c/lemmyconnect@lemmy.ca
