Good point and well said. The law in CA only applies to buildings with at least 15 units, it's opt-in so landlords will only have to pay for tenants who opt for it, and there are provisions for canceling the service for tenants who don't pay (then restrictions on their ability to opt-in again). That should help mitigate the impact to mom and pop shops.

Listen for the tiny screams.

A million percent agree. If you haven't played it yet, look nothing up and play it as blindly as possible. I'm so glad I did and wish I could do it again.

It's for worse for sure. What if people didn't have to worry in their 30s, 40s, and 50s about sustaining their livelihood in late stage capitalism and could instead focus on what makes them happy? I bet "retirement jobs" would look a lot different.

I have a theory that most people's favorite food is actually onion. We like them sweet, spicy, pickled, and in breakfast omelettes, lunch sandwiches, and alongside dinner proteins. There isn't much that isn't improved or at least complemented by an onion.

My wife turned her happy birthday sign into a happy father's day sign in the simplest, cutest way. I loved it.

"Beryl? Even our Hurricanes are gender non-binary now."

That's what he said in response to the National Hurricane Center posting the latest satellite image of the storm.

It's not nonsense. It's a sustained attack on both people and science. This kind of message brings the science deniers and bigots closer together, helping to shore up that base and give it common ground.

Often scammers don't want to make it less obvious. If it's obvious and the mark falls for it, it's a good indicator they're on the hook and will fall for more. It's to filter out the less gullible so the scammer doesn't waste their time. Probably not the case with this situation specifically, but it holds true in general with scams.
