The media has been pushing it in the last decade here(Japan). But it's more like putting on cat ears and witch hats and taking pics for instagram. Trick or treating is not common unless somebody in your neighborhood organizes an event.

I totally agree and hope that this will be the turning point for the better, but my government is one that still depends on fax machines and had a recent cyber security minister that did not know how to use a computer, so...Even seeing government accounts on twitter was a big step forward.

Same here. Wefwef and Liftoff work better for me now.

Twitter was great during the big earthquake we had in Japan, because phones weren't working. People sent out tweets for help and got help thanks to twitter.

After this, a lot of municipalites made accounts and now they post emergency info on twitter, but this just fucks everything up.

I installed liftoff, liking it at the moment!

I've only used Jerboa, now I think I need to try Connect/Liftoff

Yes! English is not my first language, so commenting on Reddit made me nervous. I find Lemmy to be more forgiving (if that makes sense?) as well.

I'm about 40% Reddit and 60% lemmy/kbin right now. Once my Reddit app of choice (Relay) dies, I'll probably be here 100%
