If you go the crypto route - use Bitcoin. This is coming from someone who owns a lot of ETH. Yes, it's outdated but it works and is the most recognizable/popular digital asset.
I've seen plenty of websites with Bitcoin donation addresses. I'm not sure how long you've been familiar with Bitcoin but despite what you may think the sentiment around it is more or less the same as it has always been. It was just as criticized at $30 as it is now at $30k.
If your only using it to collect then convert donations to your local currency then use what's popular.
I mean, there are also better solutions than ETH, but having better technology doesn't guarantee anyone will use it or Monero would be leading the market.
If there is only 1 surviving cryptocurrency 10 years from now it will most likely be Bitcoin.
