Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

MODERATORS

  • It's harmful for the foot health.
  • It can cause injuries.
  • It causes a distracting sound that is very annoying in quite places(Public libraries, education classes, ...etc)
  • I’ve never seen anyone who thinks they look good in it, and personally, I don’t believe it makes the wearer any more attractive.

I don't know why men or women wear it and I think the only reason it was invented is to fuel consumption as they are usually not as durable as normal footwear.

This man has obviously never met someone with a foot fetish…

I'm a female foot fetishist and I don't like high heels on women:

my post in reddit 4 years ago:

I find high heels on women a turn off.

a post by another:

High heels are an incredible turn-off

I think I look good in heels. They accentuate my amazing calves.

They’re designed to give the illusion of a longer leg, and long legs are traditionally seen as a desirable trait for women to have.

Heels can be helpful for certain activities. For example, I once had to drive a rental moving truck for several hours and the seat was too high. I could reach the pedals but could not rest my heels on the floor.

At the first rest stop I swapped to a chunky heel and was able to complete the journey with better ergonomics.

Guess you wouldn't like nipple piercings either, huh?

To be honest, I love the sound they make. Also: I work in a library.

Your first three could be considered factually correct but the last is pretty easily disproved. High heels make your legs stand more taught and generally makes you claves, thighs, and ass look better. Plus it's a general rule of thumb that humans like people who are tall. People will gladly trade inconvenience to improve their appearance and the fact that high heels have persisted seems to imply people think they look better in them

Here's an example of the same woman in various types of shoes and while this is a matter of opinion, I think she looks best in the block heels followed by the kitten heels:

5 frames of the same woman wearing in order: flats, kitten heels, block heels, platform shoes, and tennis shoes

If you disagree then you're in the correct place, but it's really less about the feet and more about the change in posture

I think she looks the best in trainers, but that is just my opinion.

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

I try to find a difference but i just like ass

[–] Liz@midwest.social 3 points 4 months ago

Trainers, 100%. The flats would probably look just as good if her heels weren't right next to each other.

[–] That_Devil_Girl@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 months ago

I look good in heels. I wore a pair at my college graduation. I only wear them on special occasions and I carry a pair of flats in my purse.

And the "clonk clonk clonk" down office hallways. lol.

Are they designed for maximum volume?

[–] Kaboom@reddthat.com -2 points 4 months ago (2 children)

They were invented for horse riding. They help you stay in the stirrups. Cowboy boots, real ones from the 1800s, had heels.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Now THERE'S an image!

[–] ilovededyoupiggy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

My cowboy boots, real ones from the 2010s, have heels.
