I'm in the far north on a horticulture block, and like most up here I've had enough of the incredible rainfall totals we've had particularly in the last 18 months. A strong El Niño brings the risk of drought and wildfires but at this point I'll take it.

The roads up here are completely wrecked from the rain. I had to laugh as the major of Whangarei again said they need a 4 lane highway down to Auckland. We can't even maintain what we have...

Yeah I had mushrooms growing on my lawn this summer, was pretty nuts. Have to wear wide shoes when I got feed the chickens or I'm liable to sink into the bog, the ground just can't support any more water. Good thing we have a bunch of trees along the edge of the property keeping us in place!

So potentially a dryer Spring and Summer this year? I enjoyed not having water restrictions last year, but I'm really over the rain now

Yeah, unfortunately we might end up going from one extreme to the other... this El Nino is projected to be strong, so could be very dry in some areas.

Also, probably means a particularly windy summer (which is not great for Wellingtonians!)
