Those games were such a fever dream. I genuinely have no memory of what happened in any of them, I just vaguely remember controlling an army of eyeball men with drums
Loco Roco! It's not a well known game, and honestly I wouldn't even say it's a must-play game, but I've got so many good memories with it that it's got that nostalgia factor for me. When I got my Steam Deck, that was one of the first games that I emulated
One of the best handheld games of all time tbh.
Definitely this! I think it's a must play tbh. The sound track is ingrained in my brain. Which makes each day just a tad brighter :)
Loco Roco and Loco Roco 2 had so much character, great games.
Monster Hunter was absolutely perfect as a handheld game. Played way too much of it back in the day on my psp during road trips.
Patapon was always my favourite, seems simple but you need to think quickly while having a good sense of rhythm.
Patapon and Rock Band Unplugged is what cemented my love for rhythm games. Can’t think about Message in the Bottle without seeing the track when I close my eyes to this day!
I enjoyed games like SOCOM and Monster Hunter, but my favorite memories came from the homebrew scene.
The PSP was the first thing I learned to "hack" as a kid. Installing dark_alex's M33 CFW (I hope I'm remembering that correctly) was just incredibly exhilarating and exciting. It was like unlocking a whole new aspect that didn't exist before and the whole experience was just fucking cool.
I still maintain my original PSP-1000 to this day, and fire it up once in a blue moon just to relive that nostalgia.

FF7 Crisis core is my favorite game ever. The gameplay, story, voice acting and music are all top notch.
-
DEF Jam Fight for NY is another PSP favorite for me. I really liked the combat and customization options for your character. It was just an enormous fun game.
-
Daxter was the first PSP game I played and it was also just an really fun and good game.
-
Dissidia Final Fantasy is als just a really good game with an amazing combat system.
-
The naruto games were really good. I think it was the ultimate ninja heroes games that had this interesting gameplay and also a story mechanic with an floor system that you had to climb and play through.
-
Bleach heat the soul series are fun fighting games. I think not all of them were released in the west but I recommend them because the gameplay was super fun.
Daxter
Definitely! My first game that I got with my PSP Value Pack. Played it in summer holidays in the back of a rented camper we drove in our vacation.
I literally bought a second hand PSP for one game and one game only - Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Played the absolute shit out of that one. It’s actually the only PlayStation console I’ve ever owned.
Lumines was such a great game. Soundtrack is S-Tier and gorgeous visually.
Patapon stands up too
There was a tactical rpg (think FFT) called Jeanne D'Arc that I enjoyed quite a bit. It was like a fantasy retelling of the story of Joan of Arc but with a bunch of fantasy anime stuff. I'm not even usually a big anime guy but it was a super fun tactics game.
Jeanne D'Arc is definitely an underrated game. I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would.
Patapon, LocoRoco, Peace Walker, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, and Ace Combat were some I played of the hell out of during the PSPs heyday,
I did remember trying Killzone Liberation, and it was better than I expected even if it wasnt an fps like the original, but a top down shooter.
I met my best friend through playing Liberty City Stories together every lunch time in high school while sitting on a window sill.
Crisis Core and Dissidia were my absolute favorite PSP games.
Crisis Core had me bawling by the end and the music in it is fantastic. Combat was insanely fun for me.
Dissidia is possibly my most played game of all time. The combat was so fun and was what I dreamed of as a child when thinking of an action Final Fantasy. Loved all the RPG elements and summons you could equip as well as all the unlockable tracks and costumes.
Dissidia Duodecim was even better but I really wish they didn't drop the ball on Dissidia NT. Such a let down.
My favourite memory is playing Freedom Unite solo, and finally reaching G rank on my own. It's a tough game, and making it that far without being carried was the most satisfying moment in any game for me. When I first started Freedom 2 (the previous version) I struggled to hunt even basic small monsters, and looking back on that journey made the 200+ hour playtime completely worth it for me. I think G rank took another 100 on top of that lol.
I have fond memories of Lumines and the Wipeout games.
A lot of great memories on the PSP, have been heavily considering a modded one!
Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition & Death Jr. were the first two games I had, along with a UMD of Click, lol.
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles
GTA: Liberty City Stories
Kingdom of Paradise - the PSN re-release some months ago was such a nice surprise
Marvel - Rise of the Imperfects and the first Ultimate Alliance
PaRappa!!!
Rengoku: The Tower of Purgatory
I'm a late to the party with PSP but I'm a Yu-Gi-Oh fanatic, and Tag Force are my favorite games in the entire franchise of Yu-Gi-Oh video games. I got a PSP for dirt cheap, but also because I wanted to experience my favorite games in its original quality. But, on another note - Ridge Racer PSP and Tekken are also amazing quality games.
My wife and i used to play Star Wars Battlefront 2 together. Getting nostalgic, may look up the cost of the on enay. A local ised entertainment shop has retro gaming stuff, and i always check the PSP area, but alas, no new units.
I had a modded PSP and I played a shitton of games as well. Especially monster hunter freedom unite and later mh portable third. I think I had to get a patch because at the time it was only in Japanese. I played all the GTA parts, Dexter, crisis core, proba ly thousand other games and I also downloaded a emulator for all kinds of game box games. I had so much fun with this handheld.
I really enjoyed Dissidia! I wasn't much of a fighting game player but I found the gameplay loop really enjoyable. I loved the mini-game-esque coliseum and story mode as a reprieve from just grinding battles.
Also the secret unlockables 👌
Just this last weekend I spoke with someone about Dissidia, wild how great the PSP was!
"ssx on tour" ate a lot of my time as a kid
"Infected" was a neat game with a fantastic heavy metal soundtrack if you're into that
"Power stone collection" is a great port of the Dreamcast games if you never played them
"Coded arms" was somehow a decent fps on the handheld, and was a launch title if I recall correctly.
"Viewtiful joe red hot rumble" is a decent little fighting game spinoff of the original GameCube titles....
Man I wish Capcom would remember viewtiful joe was a thing....
Oh man. PSP is one of my all-time favorite systems. Top 3 games I remember playing would probably be Rengoku Towers of Purgatory, Pursuit Force and Mega Man Powered Up. Honorable mention to Metal Gear Ac!d.
Burnout Legends, Dragon Ball Shin Budokai 2 and the GOW games, just to name a few.
Burnout legends for me as well ^^
So many good ones.
Patapon Loco Roco Crush Metal Gear Acid Peace Walker Dissidia Monster Hunter
I also replayed my favorite PS1 games: FF7 FF Tactics Castlevania Symphony of the Night Oddworld
I mainly used it to play emulated ps1 titles and a ton of Jrpgs. Star ocean 1 remake and star ocean 2, tales of phantasia, castlevania SOTN, xenigears, the list goes on. Even had a really good snes emulate I was able to sneak on there somehow and was a great portable snes machine.....just like my steam deck is now. How things change yet stay the same.
When I was growing up I played the shit out of monster Hunter. I met someone online and we met up to play at a local mall. Their father obviously was skeptical and wanted to make sure I wasn’t a creep, (we were both in early high school) so after he meets me, he decided to shake my hand AS IM SNEEZING. So I cover my mouth and felt awkward because he already had his hand extended so I went to shake it with my sneeze hand.
Wasn't there a Resistance game? I thought it was not only a good entry into the series, but controller really well despite the single analog stick.
Even though I don't like japanese fantasy games, Dissidia final fantasy took over 1000 hours of my life, such an amazing title.
I've enjoyed a lot of games on my PSP but for some reason I still have fond memories of the MediEvil remaster. It's such a good game and is dripping with atmosphere. The scarecrow fields level used to scare me a lot lol
I loved Dungeon Siege: Throne Of Agony, its not one of the more well known titles but played through it several times.
The mods! Coming from console it was my first experience modding a game. Worked great with Liberty City Stories.
Plus all the homebrew stuff was pretty good, using your PSP as a tv remote was a fun prank.
I never see Dead Head Fred mentioned in discussions like this, but it's probably the PSP game I've played through the most. The atmosphere is creepy and engaging and the range of combat/platforming/mini games/collectible hunting is great. It's got a decent plot with some great dark comedy moments. If you like horror tropes and beat 'em up style combat, I'd recommend checking it out!
Also Loco Roco, Daxter and Patapon, but they've been mentioned a fair bit already!
Lumines! Man that game was so good. I may just have to fire up my psp haha
Discovering podcasts. It was my first device with an RSS feed. Nerdblurb. Every so often I think about Edgar and Jose.
This thread goes to show how criminally underrated GTA Chinatown Wars is. It's a blast and playing it definitely belongs to my favorite PSP memories! I'm actually still playing it with PPSSPP on my phone, lol
Final Fantasy: Crisis Core. First Final Fantasy game I ever played. That game was so fun and to this day I remember being blown away by the cutscenes. I played that game so much and never actually managed to finish it since I wasn't too mechanically gifted and forgot about core mechanics. When I found out about the remake/remaster I immediatley bought it for the switch and got to relive those childhood memories and actually finish the game.
I really only had one obsession on the PSP:
Work Time Fun. I had bought the PSP just for that when a friend showed it to me.
Loco Roco, the Dragon Ball games, GTA Vice City Stories, Burnout Dominator, Formula 1, and honestly all the cool demos I downloaded over the years.
