radlibs see a bunch of "authoritarian" socialist states and wonder why communism is so totalitarian

when really it's just

(the bullet holes being Western sanctions, attempted coups, etc)

“That Allende guy had some great ideas about land reform! What ever happened to him?…”

[–] marx_mentat@hexbear.net 45 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Seeing my reply in a screenshot on hexbear: squirtle-jam

[–] LaBellaLotta@hexbear.net 36 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It gave me a good chuckle.

I must say as an inveterate lurker that these threads have been very fun to read but beyond that I do really think everyone is doing a good job.

We always say when you get into an exchange with someone you aren’t trying to change their mind, you’re trying to convince the 10 lurkers reading the exchange.

Well I think anyone reading will be able to clearly see which side is working with consistent definitions and that is certainly impactful when you read these exchanges.

This is not one of those exchanges I just couldn’t stop laughing at the idea of someone identifying as a “small government communist”

Solid dunking comrade o7

[–] marx_mentat@hexbear.net 30 points 1 year ago

The kind words and encouragement are appreciated very much comrade o7

[–] SeducingCamel@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

I came here after reading some blahaj drama threads where they were throwing absolutely wild accusations meanwhile the hexbears were the only ones trying to have actual civil discussion

[–] Gay_Tomato@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Small government communist" What in the world? Is this some kind of voluntaralist nonsense? Im scrambling to wonder what this even refers to?

[–] 4zi@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

It’s when Paul Ryan runs a workers co-op that manufactures guns to shoot Medicare recipients

[–] privatized_sun@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

anarchism is when the state is smol bean

[–] footfaults@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago

There are posts and comments that are so ridiculous that I choose to believe they are doing it on purpose. I know that a lot aren't, but I cope better thinking that they are.

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Maybe he's just going off the stateless, classless, moneyless society thing. Seems hard to have a government without a state.

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes that's all great, I don't even think that person is a total piece of shit or anything, but there's like 2-500 years of history we need to get through between now and then.

[–] LaBellaLotta@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago

No absolutely not and that’s why I blacked out their name but I just found this exchange hilarious. I do honestly hope this person takes the time to educate themselves further because I think they’re hearts in the right place and they’re probably just a kid. Truly just think the term “small government communist” is hilarious and I hope they can laugh about it someday too.

[–] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

Yeah, he's very confused. He needs to read something instead of arguing and telling us what he thinks we believe

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think it's just a kid, but goddamn are they stupid/idealistic/naive

[–] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thats my read too. Their political vocabulary is pretty telling here. They jist don't know what they're talking about and sre very confident about it

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They jist don't know what they're talking about

Completely fair, we all learn everyday

are very confident about it

Wish our society would instill more humility. Every lesson is like a debate these days, people have to be convinced of everything, no one is capable of just going "you know what, I don't actually know anything about this subject, it seems like you're knowledgeable, can I ask you about..."

[–] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, i think we'd all be happy to help them learn but they are too assured that they know everything and are the "actual" communist unlike us

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

That's what dunking is for as well. I used to be like that, until I got made so much fun of I went "ILL SHOW THEM, I'M GONNA READ ALL THE STUFF THEY TOLD ME TO READ AND THEN IM GONNA READ THE CRITIQUE OF THE STUFF AND THEN I'LL OWN THOSE FUCKING COMMIES" and then I read the text and started to realise I'd been a total idiot

[–] Juice@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

Perfect response. I was reading this thread as it was going down and that comment is legendary, "small government communist" is an evergreen bit. These people are trolls, whether they know it or not

[–] Maoo@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

Ultras like every revolution except for the ones that succeed.

[–] Comp4@hexbear.net 16 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Im a smol bean communist.

[–] AntifaSuperWombat@hexbear.net 16 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Ah, must be a fellow AnCom! Nice to see one of my people. kropotkin-big

[–] silent_water@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't think this is an ancom lmao. they sound like a confused libertarian-approaching

[–] AntifaSuperWombat@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

Oh bummer. I was already dreaming of dismantling hierarchies, establishing communism and maybe kiss on the rubble of Wall Street together with them. madeline-sadeline

[–] LaBellaLotta@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Yah know it didn’t even occur to me that the closest political tendency to what this person is describing is anarcho communism. If that was the term they used there would be no dunk but “small government” is such telling verbiage lol

[–] AntifaSuperWombat@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

There might be a small chance that they mean well but are just too America brained but otherwise if you get rid of the government before dismantling capitalism, it will just fill up the power vacuum and it’s gonna be Mad Max time.

[–] ComradeCmdrPiggy@hexbear.net 16 points 1 year ago

That was a hell of a thread

[–] Flaps@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago

Communism is when the state is small, and the smaller the state, the more communist it is

[–] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

I was trying to get this kid to explain his tendency of "democratic communism" to me

[–] RonJonGuaido@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

when someone says they're a "small government communist": read a book you Reddit ass dork

when someone says they're an "anarchist": . . . .

😂
