When they rigged the system against you after squeezing every last bit of resources for themselves, then acted like you were just irresponsible and don't get why you're horribly depressed being left with a hopeless wad of shit behind every corner and under every stone

Honestly, boomers can shit how much they want on newer generations, but sometimes it kinda feels like everything is made to screw over the young people.

My piece of advise would be to listen to our parents/teachers advises with a huge grain of salt. They come from different times and don't really have an understanding on what's happening in the world right now. Do your own research.

It's like all the good advice got monetized and now all that's left is wage slavery or a creative path to getting your chin above water.

There's a miss conception that getting a college degree is a MUST to be someone in life, which is entirely false. Most of the boomers who basically force you to get a degree, do not have one and managed to purchase a house which cost was pretty much double of his monthly wage instead of the current 1,000,000%.

Seek professions that are lacking in your country's society, and don't fear changing to new areas.

Unfortunately, I learned this after I took on a few thousand in student debt. It took a hell of a lot of work, and it certainly isn't for everyone, but I'm now a self-taught front-end web dev making a decent salary. The trick is to learn some kind of skill and know it like the back of your hand.

Yes, never stop learning.

If you after a year feel like you don't know nothing new and are doing your job the same way, you're doing it wrong.

I don't blame other people, but I do know they'd be equally screwed in my shoes!

Joke's on me I was homeschooled

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hippie homeschooling, religious fundamentalist homeschooling or libertarian contrarian homeschooling?

[–] Hathaway@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’m not sure how it’s possible… but, all of the above?

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Definitely some cognitive dissonance required but yeah I guess it would technically be possible but disastrous 🤷

[–] Hathaway@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Summed up my childhood in a sentence. “Technically possible, but disastrous”

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sorry to hear that.. I hope things are better for you nowadays

[–] Hathaway@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 year ago

They are! Thank you!

[–] Hathaway@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 year ago

I actually was. From first grade until freshman year lmao

[–] snek_boi@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Not actually, but it could be someone's predicament

[–] iforgotmyinstance@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Oh no... he's retarded

[–] db2@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (3 children)

It doesn't really get better though.

I was 48 before things started turning around for me. It's amazing what finally getting a stable job and sleep can do for mental health.

I hope you find what meets your needs, friend.

[–] ZodiacSF1969@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

I feel like I'm a late starter too, only now in my 30s do I have my shit together and have a good job. Definitely has helped mental health, I still am working out things but it's better. So glad I finished university and got a good degree.

For me, life goes in cycles. Some cycles are really bad, some are good (or awesome) and some are bland and/or neutral. As I get older, life is getting more steady and predictable and things don't bother me as bad as they used to.

For me, I am not nearly as stupid as I used to be. Combining that with not being a drunk anymore, I don't do too many things I regret these days. That is nice, I suppose.
