Why?

Are we not ruining Earth enough and need more stuff to ruin, or do the rich want somewhere to go when they have destroyed things for the rest of us?

I mean I love space, and I’d love to move to a retirement community on the moon (I’ve even come up with a crappy slogan! β€œ1/6 the gravity makes old bodies feel new again!”) but for real, why do we need commercial enterprise in the moon? Can’t we just have a nice moon that isn’t ruined by capitalism like literally everything else it touches?

Space exploration has been hijacked by corporations. It was already riding on ultranationalism and religious-like fervor of space ethusiasts who treat space like some sort of Promised Land. Now we mix in corporatism. Watch as cheaply made rockets carrying tons of lunar rock crash into Earth due to the pilots being overworked.
