Props to Jerboa (lemmy.world)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by Spliffman1@lemmy.world to c/jerboa@lemmy.ml

Jerboa is performing amazingly after the mass influx of users on DDay and the update to my primary instance lemmy.world brought it's own challenges. I was app surfing recently, bouncing between about 5 of them... But Jerboa has been rock solid through this tough time and stood out from the rest. Hats off

I tried out 3 apps total and even with it being a little stuttery, Jerboa has been my favourite so far. I like the layout of the interaction buttons for comments as well as the ability to jump from one comment chain to the next or previous.

I found Thunder to be a very smooth experience but really didn't like that you need to swipe comments to interact, and that the distance you swipe determines whether you upvote or downvote or etc. Perhaps there's a way to change that in the settings but I couldn't easily locate it.

I think the Thunder dev has plans to implement the choice between swipe or buttons, I don't like the swipe thing either, did so many accidental votes both ways lol

I'm optimistic about the future of Lemmy and the 3rd party apps, I'll give Thunder another go if the dev follows through! I saw that Sync is planning to release a Lemmy app which I'd be keen to try, was my main Reddit app for a long time before I switched to Infinity.

I tried about five different apps and Liftoff is the one I think I've settled on. It has the smoothest overall experience IMO and the most appealing UI. But Jerboa would be my second choice.

Yeah Liftoff is great too, one of my favorites also ... Yesterday Jerboa just separated itself from the pack when the others I use were getting errors trying to load comments etc, with spinning and buffering or error messages,... Jerboa was still loading them instantly.

I'm just sticking with Jerboa I think. It seems to have everything I need. It hasn't crashed for me in awhile either.

Me too, it's my favourite for sure and I love that I can adjust the font of posts, avoiding eye strain!

Jerboa is great, but litoff performs better. I hope they optimize Jerboa a little bit more.

I love how pretty much each and every comment section on posts about apps to access the Fediverse will always end up with people declaring their favorite app of the day! I mean this sincerely, because of that I kinda feel connected to most of you! It means we all are in some sort of griefing stage because most of us lost a reddit app we used for years (a decade even in my case. Rip RIF!). It also means most of you are hopeless nerds and I really appreciate that!

Excuse my little tangent!

PS: my favorite way of accessing the Fediverse is currently Wefwef but I still check out every new app I come across.

I like it a lot

Can you give a couple of thoughts on each of the other apps you tired?

You can't go wrong with jerboa, complete package and great inbox implementation...... Liftoff fantastic Amoled theme and theming in general...... Connect also great UI and even sends notifications when I have a reply waiting in my inbox, even with a notification badge on the app icon on my home screen. I vacillate between all 3 lol

Ability to easily edit posts and comments important to me too... To sum it up my 3 favorites Jerboa, Connect and Liftoff.. Not in that particular order, all 3 do a great job.

Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.
