I don't recall that razor. Is it new or have I not been paying enough attention?

Fairly new, that was my second use. Nice find, a local razor maker who had his work shop a short walk from my apartment, and his retail shop even closer. Started in the late 1800s, closed in the 1930s.

The razor is polished, including the hollow ground area, and the text is etched very deeply. Weirdly high quality finish. Makes me think the the scales are new.

The thing is in mint condition, too, and I got it for about USD 50 shipped.

Wow! Now that's a keeper!! My two Ern razors were in the $40-$50 range, but neither is close to mint condition.

There's a Swiss collector who has started dissolving their collection on a local eBay competitor. I'm hoping to get my hands on the TI Fox and Rooster and the Frio Kullenrücken in the bottom right corner

All this stuff seems mint or at least well cared for

All of those razors appear to be in great shape. I think a high-end TI will be a great addition, and one can always use another Frio. I'm looking for a 17 after using VWs.

Sunday, May 5, 2024: Sunday Shave

I refreshed today the Koraat and the Thiers-Issard, both on the recommended progression for the La Lune stone: slurry, clear water, and glycerine. I overestimated the quantity of glycerine necessary, but the result was very nice.

Have a good day!

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

It's Cinco de Mayo. This choice of soap seemed fitting.

  • Prep: warm water
  • Razor: RazoRock Hawk V2 (long handle)
  • Blade: KAI Captain Protouch MG
  • Brush: AP Shave Co. 30 mm Tuxedo Fan w/ black & clear handle
  • Lather: Wholly Kaw - King of Bourbon
  • Post Shave: OAM sensitive skin toner; Pacific Shaving Co. Caffeinated ASB

Test head shave. I ordered a Leaf Thorn and I wanted to see how I do with longer handles for head shaves before it arrives. Found this long and somewhat heavy handle while I cleaned up my den on Friday, so I just used that one. I believe it once belonged to a Parker slant razor.

1 pass and a bit of buffing plus a rare neckline shave. King of Bourbon is quite nice both in scent and performance, glad to have it back in my main cabinet. The OAM toner isn't very fitting as a scent combo, but it sure has a nice smell of its own (kind of an italian gentlemen's cologne from older generations). The ASB is actually what I mostly use as a beard cream - I dunno why anyone thought it'd be a great idea to add caffeine to an aftershave balm, since it promotes hair growth. Something in it helps with redness though and that was needed on my neck (note to self: probably should avoid going ATG there).

Yesterday I visited my mother at her new workplace: she now sells tickets and souvenirs at the gardens of a city near us where I also have my workplace (a nursing home). Currently she's at the Japanese garden and that was a delightful experience yesterday - this garden is quite different to our european gardens and perfect for quiet introspection or meditation in general. Much needed in times like these and surely worth another visit.

  • Brush: AP Shave Co. - 24mm Synbad Fan
  • Razor: Chiseled Face - Legacy Raw Titanium (#69)
  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (3)
  • Lather: Chicago Grooming Co. - Caoba - Soap
  • Post Shave: Chatillon Lux - Weinstrasse - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Barrister & Mann - Lavanille - EdP

I noticed today that my spreadsheet had Lavanille spelled incorrectly (Lavenille). Both should work, but "Lavenille" might put the emphasis on lavender, whereas "Lavanille" puts the emphasis on vanilla.

I've been quite busy the past week or so. I had a busy period at work which is over now, and today we went fishing and I played around with my new RC transmitter.

I've had a Futaba 6EX since 2008, and A LOT has changed in the past 16 years. I had no real reason to replace it, but my new one is very cool. I got an FrSky X18SE. The bells and whistles know no bounds.
