The 45+ crowd will vote for him because they support isn'treal and are afraid of Drumpf but I think we're going to see a massive drop out of young voters. Probably too with the people who already don't vote to begin with, namely service workers who are fucked over either way with D's and R's.

And here I thought Biden was going to win in November, time to eat crow.

Biden forever courting the 5% of Republicans who will maybe vote for him instead of going after younger people who would like to vote Democrat if they weren't such shitheads. "Nothing will fundamentally change."

The only wildcard is how some states had big turnout to protect abortion rights, like Ohio. Which will probably still go red cause it's a shithole state but maybe other states will be blue.

"but the young people don't vote!"

I wonder why that might be soviet-hmm

we also do nothing to make it easier to vote, or stop gop from targeting ways the youth votes

I think the under 45 participation rate will be so low that Trump will actually get more support than Biden, because at least his base loves him.

Can't wait for the endless think pieces about how young people are conservative 🙄

Can't wait for the endless think pieces about how young people are conservative

Oh, god. The NYT all by itself will publish scores of op-eds, think pieces, and even articles "explaining" the phenomenon. And all them will be high up on the homepage.

So far we have the whole stimulus check debacle, no student loan forgiveness, banning TikTok, and now his steadfast determination to enable genocide in Palestine. I'm sure there is a lot more. I don't know what he has done for young people except belittle causes and issues that are important to them

I'm probably not voting at all, but Id vote 3rd party again if I did.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 62 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Remember when Feinstein told a bunch of literal children to fuck off when they confronted her about climate change? Children with existential dread is not a thing the world should tolerate yet the crusty old dinosaur was indifferent. That's the democratic party in a nutshell. They can't even pretend to care.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 36 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Literally watching children come to terms with the contradictions of liberal democracy.

"Wait, 'we dont all want to die in the water wars' isn't a legitimate reason to do something?"

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 40 points 6 months ago

It's happening with the college protests too. They were taught that peaceful protest was a right and a good thing to do to combat injustice. Then some meatloaf human with a badge tackles them at their own school. I hope a good percentage of these young people get radicalized enough to bully me for being a lib.

[–] ToxicDivinity@hexbear.net 61 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Over 45 Libs (and a lot of people under that age too) really think that they can just say "trump bad, trump worse" to every criticism because to them the break with norms is so shocking that they can't get over it. They think everyone cares about this aesthetic shit as much as they do.

For people who's formative years were around the george w admin we saw a president who did unspeakably terrible things but the libs give him credit because he went to the correspondents dinner and took it on the chin. They really can't understand that we're looking past the optics, we know it's all a charade and we care about what's behind it.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 18 points 6 months ago

In the defense of people over 45 they think that because it worked on them for the last 3 decades and they never had the thought of "Maybe the guy whose promised me if I vote for him things will get better for 30 years is actually also full of shit."

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 58 points 6 months ago (1 children)

He started off saying he has no synpathy for the problems faced by young people and telling billionaires nothing will fundamentally change.

He was cooked from the start he just worked harder than most of the baby leftists who tried really really hard to give him a pass but he kept doubling down and reiterating that he detests them and doesn't care what they think and would never even consider comprimising with them let alone working with them.

He started at zero and has been digging as hard as he can since then.

He barely beat trump, only because Trump killed 2 million Americans to own the libs, and since then has done everyrhing he can to convince anybody who cares about workers right, the environment, or not committing genocide to not vote for him.

Just look at the current liberal memes that are literally "ok Biden is doing a genocide but if Trump wins he'll do even more genocide"

Gotta vote for Biden so Trump doesn't bomb the rubble.

[–] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 21 points 6 months ago (1 children)

He was also getting destroyed in the polls until Obama made the perfect phone call

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 26 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Obummer putting his thumb on the scales only to make things worse is very on-brand. Like how the NBA was gonna strike over black lives matter and then he called up some of the players and talked them out of it. Can you imagine the amount of attention they could have brought to the issue? Big names, immensely popular figures, role models to children, an industry worth billions and billions in cash. Goddamn him.

[–] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 24 points 6 months ago (1 children)

It would have been cool if those players stood their ground too. Not blaming them, because I don't know how the phone call(s) went down.

Biden's still favored to win on all the betting markets.

I'm guessing Dems will laser-focus on women's health, pretending they weren't responsible for anything lost while they controlled all 3 branches of federal government. Of course they won't mention the hospitals where their bombs are dropping nor the arab women who are giving birth while literally dead in the street. But the advertisements will be convincing!

[–] john_browns_beard@hexbear.net 39 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Biden's still favored to win on all the betting markets.

Literally how is this possible lol. I just checked and Trump is at 29.4%, seems like easy money to me. You'd think they would have learned after 2016.

[–] emizeko@hexbear.net 19 points 6 months ago

Biden 54 cents - Trump 45 cents on predictit (pres winner pays $1)

[–] edge@hexbear.net 32 points 6 months ago (9 children)

lmao betting markets.

Biden is going to lose, it’s that simple. The genocide alone is enough to make him lose Michigan, Georgia was a razor thin margin that won’t happen again, and Trump leads in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Arizona.

The first two plus any one of the last three is enough for Trump to win.

He’s done next to nothing to actually help people while instead sending hundreds of billions to Ukraine and Israel. We are closer to WW3 now than at any other point this century, and he bears much of the blame.

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 28 points 6 months ago

Not that polls are perfect but the last one I saw Trump was winning in every single swing state

I'll show up to vote on local candidates and referendums but I'm writing in "Free Palestine" for president and I suggest anyone else going to the polls do the same.

this is my last election as an under 45, but i haven't voted for a major party for El Presidente since Obozo's first term, let me be clear. i thought he was gonna close gitmo.

i work with a bunch of PMC types in the non profit / give a fuck sector, so they are generally younger than me by 10-20 years. there are only a few committed turbolibs, who like brag about their connections to the local DNC franchise. legit cringe. i think probably there's a chunk that are more fearful of another trump term than a biden term and don't see a path out, though we all live in a safely red state with just a handful of electoral votes anyway so the emotional investment is non existent for anyone with a functioning mind. so basically, the bulk of the over 45 professionals are all visibly wigging the fuck out about another trump term, to our incredulity. i bet if i told any of the well remunerated / wealthy Gen Xers that i wasn't gonna vote for biden, they would burst a blood vessel.

what would be amusing to me would be if biden loses, but the dems pick up seats in the house and senate that some kind of antagonistic coalition can form with the numbers to override presidential vetos and fuck with the courts. i don't think it's feasible and would probably only do terrible things, but it would be funny.

[–] FuckyWucky@hexbear.net 42 points 6 months ago

Idk. American elections are really unpredictable and very close. This is not a defense of Biden or Trump just that it's like not very different from flipping a coin.

Turnouts going to be lower that's for sure.

Can't wait to laugh my ass off at Biden losing and cry my ass off at all of us being forced to live in turbo-hell where everything continually gets worse

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 30 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I've been living in turbo hell where everything keeps getting worse for decades.

The only difference is when a dem is president all the chuds around me feel the need to tell me about how they're going to murder people like me.

Besides, I'm sure those young'uns LIKE being basement dwellers anyways!

[–] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 34 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Biden loses in the popular vote, but wins in the electoral college. The Republicans say the election was stolen and Trump posts on his social media that the Republicans should abolish the electoral college, but nothing happens.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 26 points 6 months ago (5 children)

I keep seeing this here and as much as it would be funny there's literally no chance that happens.

The EC is explicitly set up to give lower population (republican) states more influence.

Unless California and New York catch Trump fever and everybody form "real america" decides to overwhelmingly vote for the perosn they've been screaming is a communist for a decade this is never ever going to happen.

Homie, Biden smells toast on the daily.

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 27 points 6 months ago

I was just watching UCLA protest video where someone of the zionist side pulled out a Trump flag. No significant negative reaction from anyone on the zionist side. Support for Israel's genocide is support for Trump. Biden is voting for Trump. :vote: Blue No Matter Genocide

[–] sawne128@hexbear.net 23 points 6 months ago (6 children)

To the people saying they will not vote, why not vote for De la Cruz? Even if you don't like the PSL, it's better than voting blank?

IDK this country has a massive cuckholdery to the Democrat Republican clown show. I don't see them moving to the Green Party or PSL in numbers that one would think would send a message. There's non insignificant support for dynasty establishment troll RFK Jr. So if those people don't channel this fustration into a relavant supporting party such as Green or PSL save an armed revolution nothing will fundementally change and the cycle of D/R clownshow continues.

Edit - all the people not voting it's like just rolling over for the Empire. Passive acceptance / consent. Surrender. No vote. No right to complain.

I think he’s definitely toast with any voters under 25. Beyond that it gets a bit harder to say. I think he’s definitely wildly unpopular with most folks under 45 but they might just vote for him to vote against Trump. It comes down to whether people view their vote as a personal endorsement of a candidate, in which case they won’t vote for him, or as a defense against Trump, in which case they will not. If I had to guess today, I’d say Biden wins the popular vote by a slimmer margin than what Hillary won by in 2016 but then loses the electoral college because of lower turnout in the same key states that Hillary lost.

I’m still not totally convinced that the democrats care too much about winning. You’d think they would wait a few months until after the election to discuss stuff like the Tik tok ban or even additional funds to Israel. It really feels like they’re looking for ways to self sabotage so we get trump, at which point they’ll blame the left/young people. We’ll see what these next few months look like.
