I'd like a hide post button. I sometimes want to hide posts, but not usually ones I've interacted with.
You Should Know
YSK - for all the things that can make your life easier!
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules (interactive)
Rule 1- All posts must begin with YSK.
All posts must begin with YSK. If you're a Mastodon user, then include YSK after @youshouldknow. This is a community to share tips and tricks that will help you improve your life.
Rule 2- Your post body text must include the reason "Why" YSK:
**In your post's text body, you must include the reason "Why" YSK: It’s helpful for readability, and informs readers about the importance of the content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding non-YSK posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-YSK posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
If you are a member, sympathizer or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
For further explanation, clarification and feedback about this rule, you may follow this link.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
Rule 10- The majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.
Unless included in our Whitelist for Bots, your bot will not be allowed to participate in this community. To have your bot whitelisted, please contact the moderators for a short review.

Just need a "mark read in scroll" for those of us who like fresh content and doomscroll often.
Hm but then you won't see that the post you were engaging with had new comments since your last visit
The best method to keep track is save posts as a favorite or use an app, specifically Summit keeps a history of all posts you've visited.
I keep switching between Summit, Jerboa, and Connect
Any functional difference between the 3 apps that you like\dislike ?
There have been major updates on each app nearly everyday and the devs are great at intending requests. At first, you could only view posts with no option to post or login.
I really like Jerboa, which has been down the past week after the latest update. It has a clean layout, can be fast, and is the best for posting but lacks in a few areas that the others have.
Connect has been the snappiest, it loads thumbnails and has a more clearly defined "thumbnail click area" to a "title text /comments click area" then other apps.I love to swipe to upvote. But, I frequently get an error some posting, which leads to double posts.
Summit had the best layout, list 2, which feels more comfortable an be the dev said he'll add left handed mode, which would be nearly identical to rif. It has a history feature so I can go back to a post I viewed if I wanted to upvote it still. It didn't always load the thumbnail, but I think that's Lemmy world issue since there's been a lot of lag this week.
Edit: I still frequently use the browser version on my phone to see my notifications and respond to posts, as all the apps give me an error while posting due to the lag.
There should really be an option to simply hide posts...
It’s also worth noting that the “Hide Posts” setting also hides your posts too, so if you need to edit a post you’ll have to unhide it.
Tbh this thing is super annoying rn.
Yeah, I'm really hoping Lemmy gets a manual hide/unhide feature similar to Reddit at some point.
What thing?
I believe people have mentioned before that the posts are really hard to unhide so once its hidden thats it. So if you comment then it counts as interacted and then its gone. It may have been changed in updates though but ive been scared to try.
It is annoying, but I found that if you go back to your settings page, and toggle the setting to show read. Save, and the refresh, you will see your posts on your profile again. So again, it's annoying, but just another quirk while building a new service.
Awesome thank you!
For me it's annoyng because it'll hide my own posts, which I'll check to see if I uploaded to a community I liked for that day.
Keep it, but make it easier to find on the main page instead of hidden in settings.
I'd like to thank you guys with all the YSK post explaining the little intricacies of lemmy. It's been a huge help the past few days to get situated here.
I like this however I don’t want to never see a post again when I view it but definitely would like to be able to hide posts or communities manually
Thank you for this! Just made the adjustment, I was starting to get a bit annoyed with the same top/ active posts showing for the last day
Thanks for the info but will this eventually reflect in wefwef? Because it's the only app I use to surf lemmy.
Yes. It affected every app that I used so far. The only one I'm not sure is connect for lemmy (android), because it has its own hide read posts settings.
Yeah, I'm really hoping Lemmy gets a manual hide/unhide feature similar to Reddit at some point.
I hope we come to a better solution than upvoting things to mark them read and make them go away. That generates a lot of noise in the voting data. Say what you want about whether votes are useful for sorting content, but flooding them with garbage data can only make them worse.
A true hero
I use jerboa. Can someone tell me how to do that? Or suggest an app with such feature?
Top left lines, settings, username settings, uncheck show read posts.
Thank you for the information.
Three lines in top left > settings > [username] settings > scroll down > uncheck "show read posts"
Oh so it is available. Thank you for the information.
Has dramatically improved my experience on the site
Game changer holy shit thanks! I assumed I'd have to wait for the app I use to implement that
Thanks for this! I’ve seen the same few posts in my r/all feed for a couple days now and this completely fixes it.
This is super cool shit thanks!
oh my gad, where have you been all this time?!
I'd rather hide the posts that I've downvoted.
It does work like that too. So both.
Atm this is a quite hacky way to do it. Wish it didn't hide your own posts, and only affected active and hot for like a day after seeing the post
Will this only hide those posts on the frontpage or also on other pages?
Can anyone confirm if toggling this on web carries over to mobile apps?
Yes it does. It's a hard setting for your Lemmy profile that is applied to your account, which effects your apps. Some apps allow you to change this in the settings.
Is there a way to change the default comment sort?
Not at the moment. You can only select three sort type for posts and your default homepage. But these are in the works.
oh my gad, where have you been all this time?!
It's worth noting that this setting also hides then from search results, which is pretty silly imo. So when searching, use a different account/different browser
