At least you did post an excellent meme because of the painful, terrible event.

That's why you buy a thinkpad - mine dropped several times down. Just a bit clippedy dew and a restart and everything is fine, again.

Or in my case, my Thinkpad T490 is absolutely brain dead and shuts itself down / crashes during idle sleep mode every time.

Similarly, my Yoga C930 battery drained in 2 days while powered off and fingerprint scanner stops working after waking from sleep.

Lenovo used to be good..

oh good it's not just me... And what's with that absolutely awful contrnt aware brightness implementation?

[–] Schokonoko@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

The stairs after I dropped my Thinkpad down them

Let's hope it's a framework laptop and you can just buy replacement parts.

Man I want one of those...

What's the context of the original picture? That guy seems like he isn't having a great time.

"Ivan the Terrible and his son Ivan"

"It depicts the grief-stricken Russian tsar Ivan the Terrible cradling his dying son, the Tsarevich Ivan Ivanovich, shortly after the elder Ivan had dealt a fatal blow to his son's head in a fit of anger. The painting portrays the anguish and remorse on the face of the elder Ivan and the gentleness of the dying Tsarevich, forgiving his father with his tears."

It's one of my favorite paintings

Many thanks. That being said, "forgiving his father with his tears" big ole X on that one

It's really hard to see in this image, but they're definitely there in higher definition pictures

[–] Enigma@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 year ago

I think they were referring to the younger Ivan crying because he’s in pain, not because he’s forgiving his father.

It's just a flesh wound

A lot of higher end credit cards also include protection against this kind of thing as well.

Renters insurance is your friend. Might be a good idea to look into, it's cheap af and covers things like this.

[–] Sharpiemarker@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Don't you have to pay a deductible with renters insurance?

Or just don't drop your shit

[–] Iceman@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago

Shit happens

You do, but its generally a lot less than repairs or a new laptop. I'll give you my example.. My laptop is a 2021 Razer 14 The power port had a broken connector on the inside, and since the way it was made the port was part of the motherboard, the repairs for that power port were going to be over $1700 on a $2300 laptop.

Renters insurance was definitely the less painful option. Just one of those things that may only be useful on rare occasions, but when it is, it really is.

Interesting! I'm only familiar with home owners insurance and car insurance, and those are typically between $500-1000. Thanks for sharing your experience.

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

That's the reason why my laptop has a big dent by the hinge. I do plan on getting that fixed eventually.
