He's a beagle, if that helps. He gets upset when I play and just yells.

Likely, he’s been rewarded with attention when he howls while someone is using a computer. Reconditioning the antisocial behavior entails rewarding him for the social behavior you prefer.

This is the real answer

Kill a few Minecraft dogs in front of him, then whisper “you’re next if you don’t pipe down” at him.

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 26 points 7 months ago

He’s a beagle, so he’s stubborn and not willing to negotiate

Omg yes. I'd need one with a dog chair on each side though so both of my dogs can sit with me lol

[–] livus@kbin.social 6 points 7 months ago

So basically you need to start playing minecraft on a 3 seater sofa, surrounded by dog treats.

Well have you tried offering him a turn? You've been hogging the controller, let him try.

[–] kometes@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

He probably wants his own account and a computer to play on...

Try telling him this: Woof! Woof woof! Bark woof grrrrr woof! Bark bark rrrrrrrr bark raa raa raa woof.

woof.

When I said that to my dog, she just repeated it back at me, but with this mocking, high pitched tone... not gonna lie, my feelings were hurt.

[–] Devi@kbin.social 15 points 7 months ago

You've wrongly linked the behaviour with an action. Beagles yell regardless of what you do if you're not paying them attention.

My dog absolutely hates certain noises. Anything excessively high pitched especially.

Have you tried turning the sound off, or is it you being on the computer in general rather than playing Minecraft?

Do you play any other games? If not, it may be the higher load than normal causing the fans to spin, and maybe that's messing with his ears.

The only other thing I can think of, besides the dog simply seeking attention, are your actions while you play Minecraft. Whether you make noises or yell, fidget, gasp, move in your chair a lot (squeeky wheels?) etc.

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 7 points 7 months ago

You can't. Play Terraria instead.

[–] oDIRECTORo@lemmy.radio 6 points 7 months ago

Does the dog get upset when you have headphones on? If it's a beagle the sounds and or music may be messing with it's ears.

Frozen treat stuffed inside a Kong toy. You have at least 30 minutes. Lol

Have you checked to make sure he is not your human dad?

Invent Minecraft for Dogs.

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 4 points 7 months ago (3 children)

Why play Minecraft when you could be playing with a real dog?

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 10 points 7 months ago

I mean, I like to do both lol. I spend most of my spare time with my pets, but sometimes I wanna do something for myself lol

[–] x4740N@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

I don't think you want to take your real life dog to do some underground mining

Play Minetest and see how he reacts.

Tame a wolf and then kill it in front of him. Maintain eye contact while you do it. He'll get the message.
