I remember watching this and being blown away. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it, and it surpassed my expectations.

What a great time in my youth.

Especially considering this was like 5 years after the first half life. It really was a generational leap.

Quite crazy to think the tech underpinning games like Gmod (which was popular well into the 2010s) was developed 2003 and likely earlier.

Edit: I checked now and still quite a lot of people playing Gmod

Es was okay. The Physics, the Lighting and Water still looks very dated. It has been improved quite a bit compared to e.g. latest Unreal (details)

I remember when I installed the leaked tech demo and was absolutely blown away. It was one thing to see it broadcasted, it was entirely different to actually play through it
