FD RX7

I just loved the idea of a rotary and how a 1.3L engine could have such a high output.

[–] darkstar@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 year ago

I love the FD. It's a timeless design. I never saw any as a kid, and really only encountered them watching Initial D, but I definitely think they're iconic.

[–] neoney@lemmy.neoney.dev 2 points 1 year ago

Precisely this is why I bought an RX8 lol

[–] Hildegarde@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Renault Twingo. It is tiny and adorable. Less car is best car.

The DeTomaso Pantera GT5 from the 80s

Something about its design just speaks to me, I don't know what it is

[–] AttackBunny@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

My neighbor as a kid had one. It wasn’t stock either. LOVED the way that car sounded.

[–] treadful@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 year ago

Hard choice, but maybe the 1968 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

I think cars should be eliminated wherever possible. Regardless, the El Camino is my favorite πŸ˜…

[–] Karmmah@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Don't know if it really is the favourite one since I like a lot of cars but the Alpine A110 is definitely close to the top. It just embodies everything that I think a car should aim to be. Light, inexpensive, great handling, good looking.

[–] ion@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago

For a truly unobtainable car, I’d say the GM EV-1.

[–] TheWeirdestCunt@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Call me a weeb if you want but my favourite is still the AE86, but honestly I like most 80s/90s cars. I prefer the boxy look over the bubbly 2000s look and most cars after the turn of the century are just bland.

[–] RGB3x3@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I have been admiring the Aston Martin DB12 since it came out. Maybe someday I can afford it.

[–] FooSolo@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

2010-2015 Toyota Prius. Efficient, smooth, roomy, can haul a bunch of stuff. Just fun to drive and love the car for what it is and designed to do.

Second generation Audi R8

I was lucky enough to own that alongside the Shelby GT350 for a short while, but ended up selling the GT350 within a year of getting the R8 since I have no need for two sports cars. I need a practical vehicle, so I got a Macan Turbo. If I could've afforded a Lamborghini HuracΓ‘n I would've gotten that, but I couldn't, so I got the next best thing and I love it. For anyone unaware, since VW owns Audi and Lamborghini, the R8 and HuracΓ‘n share the same chassis, and a whole bunch more parts. Mine is a base V10 (not a V10+), so it has a different transmission than the HuracΓ‘n, but the engine is the same.

I'm FINALLY going to be able to take the R8 to the track to see what it can do. That's why I bought it four years ago, and it's what I did numerous times with the GT350, which aside from overheating issues was fantastic in its handling. I hope the R8 doesn't disappoint.

The Lexus IS500. I know it's not as fast or "spirited" or technologically advanced as an M340i or a C43. But I love the styling, the reliability, and the naturally aspirated V8. I've been talking my wife's ear off about it and saving up for a while now. I'm hoping maybe in December I can snag one.

[–] darkstar@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Best of luck on picking one up! I rather like the design of the IS500, and of the previous generation IS (2006ish?). My only problem with the IS was its price compared to its performance. How can you charge so much for a sub-300hp V6? Then they put the V8 from the LC500 in the IS and it made much more sense to me.

I don't know anything about the way it handles, but if it's anything like the way it looks, it should be a fun ride.

Datsun 240z.

Uh, Miata is always the answer!!

Honestly, as a daily is really is the best thing out there for me. I honestly can’t think of anything bad to say about the ND.

Favorite car is still the first gen RX7. Every time I think about selling mine I go for a drive and remember why I can’t. It just does everything so wrong but so right, even at a whopping 89rwhp.

[–] pepsison52895@lemmy.one 2 points 1 year ago

Agreed on the Miata! I had a '19 GTS that I bought new. Sold it a while ago and bought a really clean '94 when my employer went fully remote and I've always wanted an NA.

Pagani Huayra, theres something outerworldy in having adaptive aerodynamics (air brakes) on the hood were they can be seen while driving.

[–] cum_hoc@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I fell in love with that car the moment I saw it. The two-tone versions with the carbon fibre exposed are chef's kiss

[–] knocks@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Fiat 124 coupe.

[–] Paterfamilias01@reddthat.com 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

My dream car is a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, black, 2 door, hard top. Perfect.

[–] Vcio@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

almost a batmobile

[–] SecretPancake@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If I had the money I would buy and electrify an old VW T1 Camper and that would be my favorite.

[–] Vcio@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah also a beauty, there are some EVs "inspired" by it, but not quite the same.

I like VW Golf’s. I’d like an electric one.

[–] Junkers_Klunker@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The Ford Mondeo st200 wagon from around 99-00, pretty small and light by todays standard but still decently roomy on the inside and then theres the engine, that 2.5 v6 is an absolute peach and the closest any carmaker has come to the legendary Busso v6 from Alfa Romeo.

[–] QuarterSwede@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Classic: β€˜58 Corvette

Old school muscle: β€˜71 Barracuda convertible.

New: 2023 Aston Martin DBS

[–] fratermus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 year ago

I have owned many vehicles over the decades. The only one I truly loved was a 1972 standard beetle.

[–] mycroftholmess@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

A 2009 W211! E280D. Gorgeous design that's stood the test of time. I still have it and it drives amazing

[–] Flyspeck@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

90s rap fostered my love for the Range Rover and Escalade (although I'd never buy either unless they were electric)

[–] happyhippo@feddit.it 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Mine has got to be the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio:

[–] Gleddified@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

Tough choice, but I'm going '88 BMW M5

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Favorite I've owned? Model S Plaid

Favorite impractical? Maybe a Porsche 918 Spyder

Favorite classic? Ford Fairlane 427 Black on Black

Favorite right now but I haven't driven it or seen it in person? Maybe the new Corvette AWD Hybrid.

[–] Robertej92@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

My dream car has been the Jaguar XK8 for a solid 20 years, my understanding is that they're about as reliable as an all electric Renault but 10 year old me was more focused on the beauty and so is 30 year d me.

[–] 77slevin@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago

Just bought the Suzuki Ignis, a mild hybrid. Have to wait until December, but it will be my favorite car real quick.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 year ago
