Yes, I do have an account on each of these sites (this is my Kbin account).

[–] MajikalMonkey2000@piefed.social 22 points 7 months ago (2 children)

And now I'm replying to this from my PieFed account. Me, myself, and I.

I'm posting this screenshot on all of my accounts, and this was the least idiotic way I could think to do it for the threadiverse. Feel free to ask me anything about my experience as compensation.

Up- and downvoting the same comment of yours at the same time? This is illegal! /s

I'm so glad somebody noticed. You're a real one.

compared to most social media people, you probably have more of a solution.

scrolled through my friends insta feed the other day and its like two ads for every post. real shit by other people is a rare sight.

[–] MajikalMonkey2000@lemmy.world 10 points 7 months ago

Absolutely, I think the last time I had this much fun on social media was back when forums and GeoCities were the norm.

Please name all the sites in their order. Three or more look new to me.

Check out https://kbin.melroy.org as well, it's a forked version of kbin

my mannnnn - putting us on

[–] Pantherina@feddit.de 6 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Today I found out that Kbin has an actually usable Interface, unlike Lemmy.

[–] QuandaleDingle@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yes!!! Now if we could just get a Kbin app, that'd be great.

Interstellar for Android, but then your instance is kbin.earth.
kbin.social has not opened yet its API.

Or simply use a website as PWA.

[–] QuandaleDingle@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

Thanks for this. I'll give it a look. :)

Alexandrite for desktop, and eternity for Android. This pretty much fixed Lemmy for me, just wanted to throw that out there in case anyone still didn't know about them.

Why is that?

[–] Vub@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

What’s the point? Aren’t most of them connected anyway? If not then the fragmentation is a real problem. I mean, who has the time or energy to click through dozens of websites which all serve the same or similar purpose?

[–] MajikalMonkey2000@lemmy.world 15 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (2 children)

Oh, I actually made all of these accounts just to come to terms with the granular differences (and interactions) between each platform. The main reason I have all these accounts is to run little experiments to see how all the functionality works and to try underutilized features that I wouldn't normally touch on my main fediverse account.

My hope is that I can come to a more informed decision about which platform I should use long-term for my main account. Migrating just to try out something new can be challenging, after all. I also want to determine whether I should bother having more than one fediverse account.

[–] technomad@slrpnk.net 16 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Would there be any way you could share your observations/opinions when you feel like you've gotten to that point? I'd like to hear comparison notes and stuff like that.

[–] MajikalMonkey2000@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago (2 children)

I am considering writing a blog post on WriteFreely or something to wrap things up later. Comparing the features and flow for certain tasks could be interesting. I assume most people on the fediverse haven't tried more than a couple platforms (I had only signed up for 3 despite using the fediverse since 2015).

I just have to decide how far I really wanna go with this, since there's a spectrum between general impressions and a deep dive into every meaningful feature. If I do that, I'll be tempted to report any bugs I find. 😅 So I guess we'll see what happens.

[–] Mocha 3 points 7 months ago

If you ever do this, I'd read it in a heart beat!

[–] technomad@slrpnk.net 3 points 7 months ago

Obviously, please share if you do!

I've only used a few so far. Mastodon, Kbin, and Lemmy. Lemmy is my daily driver; I'm not really a microblogging person.

I'm interested in Friendica, Piefed, and Pixelfed too. BookWyrm's concept is cool as shit, I just don't read enough books to make use of it (this needs to change). There is an idea I heard about a community driven recipe/cooking fediverse site, that I heard on a podcast (decentered podcast I think?) that sounded really cool and like something I'd probably use often.

[–] Vub@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I see. Thanks for explaining. So which do you like the most so far?

[–] MajikalMonkey2000@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

I think IceShrimp is actually really good and a bit more polished than Misskey in certain ways. Akkoma's nice since it's so minimalist, and Friendica is surprisingly featureful (it even federates with Diaspora). But yeah, so far IceShrimp feels the most satisfying to use.

[–] Mocha 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It's great to see that you're a user of so many services of the Fediverse!

I really liked the glitched version of Mastodon of myself, particularly the high privacy icons.

[–] MajikalMonkey2000@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, it really just feels like a refined version of Mastodon in many ways. If Mastodon suits your style, Glitch Edition may well be the best choice for microblogging.

[–] Blaze@dormi.zone 2 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Glitch Edition

TIL about this, thanks. I had a look, but I'm a bit confused. Is it enabled for everyone on mastodon.social, or is it a setting people can activate?

[–] Kierunkowy74@kbin.social 3 points 7 months ago

No. It is a version of Mastodon available on some instances, like infosec.exchange or mstdn.ca

[–] Mocha 1 points 7 months ago

If you want to know more about the features, you can see the Glitch docs, they break down the features there:
