Ironically, International Workers' Day is on May first to commemorate a US labor strike/protest/massacre.

This was one of those facts that felt like pulling back the curtain and seeing Oz for who he is. When I learned this, it was like an itch I couldn't scratch. Why is the worlds labor day about us... Why is our labor day not? None of the answers to the second question felt satisfying.
Even better, the US replaced it with loyalty day
Oh Jesus, I'm learning this now for the first time... So they not only ignore May 1st and it's history but also replace it with a Fascist/Nationalist "holiday". Fucking awesome.
Have you read The Jakarta Method yet?
Not yet, but sounds like I should move it up the list. To much to learn, not enough time.
I feel ya, it's one of those books that really cements the validity of the quote, “The history of all hitherto existing human society is the history of class struggles.”
Running for office on the platform of ending labor day.
I worked 11 hours last labor day
You can remove the space between the two to make them continuous.

Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Nepal: I'm very disappointed in you.
Oh good, they were the ones I was most let down by
Holdouts against metric labor day
It's currently Labour Day in Melbourne Australia. Second Monday of March, though I don't know why they picked that date. It varies between states, but all Australian states have a holiday for Labour Day/Eight Hours Day/May Day.
Fun fact: Melbourne stonemasons were among the first workers to successfully get an eight hour day. On the 21st of April 1856 they marched on Parliament. The first 8 Hours Procession to celebrate was on the 12th of May. So.. No clues on why the fuck it's Labour Day now in March, but it's been a paid holiday since 1879.
Also it's called May Day in the NT and Eight Hours Day in Tasmania. Hope you enjoyed this random info dump. Also I'm very warm please send ice
Don’t think all of Europe is having a day off, The Netherlands is working on may 1st…
For it's on first monday of September but otherwise yeah always the same map.
For the UK, it's just because it's the first Monday of May rather than May the 1st so we get a three day weekend.
Same in Ireland
