I think small drone production will pay off vastly more than tank production in the future revolutionary wars. How many small drones can we make for the same amount of labour as a tank? A lot. And a lot more can be operated simultaneously.

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 11 points 8 months ago (1 children)

My daily reminder that I need to l2drone

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 7 points 8 months ago

Honestly? Ya. Getting into hobbiest drone making would be a useful skill.

[–] HamManBad@hexbear.net 29 points 8 months ago (2 children)

The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a tank is a good guy with a tank

[–] ProfessorAdonisCnut@hexbear.net 26 points 8 months ago (1 children)

There are a lot of blown apart Merkavas in Gaza that show it's more complicated than that

[–] SpookyGenderCommunist@hexbear.net 16 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Merkavas

Ok, kinda related, but why did they name a fucking tank the Markava? When in Jewish mysticism, merkavas are like... Flaming chariots people ascend up to Heaven on.

Like, at least use the name Merkava for an airplane or a space shuttle or something.

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 17 points 8 months ago

It kinda fits when you think about how many tank crews are getting merc'd and having their souls sent out of the burning wreckage straight to their demiurge

[–] Findom_DeLuise@hexbear.net 18 points 8 months ago

This but unironically tankie

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 26 points 8 months ago (2 children)

I was very disapointed by that scene. Your "dream bigger" in an Mk32? Bro. Bro. Use your imagination. Get the BFG or the Spartan Laser or something.

In some ways it was such an impoverished vision of dreaming.

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 33 points 8 months ago (1 children)

it clearly says on there the word "tank"

you are officially owned in the marketplace of central planning

i think the diegetic lore is that the dream needs to be as realistic as possible so the target doesn't realize they are dreaming so they can steal useable intel from them instead of just their jordan peterson grandma pube psychodrama. non-diegetically its a cool aesthetic they are going for, imo a tacky videogame reference would have ruined it. i get ur point about the dreams being weirdly grounded, but at least make it like a jungian archetype collective unconscious magical sword or spear or a normal looking handgun that inexplicably glows and makes 100 meter wide holes when it shoots or something like one punch man making holes in the world.

[–] Findom_DeLuise@hexbear.net 10 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Trolling my dream-infiltrators by conditioning myself to envision all gun violence as being played out by Joe Piscopo with an .88 Mag (it shoots through schools), as depicted in the documentary film Johnny Dangerously

[–] TraumaDumpling@hexbear.net 25 points 8 months ago (5 children)

i love those light wheeled armored vehicles with cannons, autocannons and/or antitank missile launchers on em. periscope visors and hatches and stuff are just so cozy. especially with external remote control machinegun turrets or at least a camera pod. and smoke launchers to GTFO in relative safety. i wanna hotbox an AFV.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 16 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I'm claustrophillic or something, I feel cozy and safe AF in a tight space, I sleep in a sleeping bag on my bed and the one time I was inside a tank I felt comfy as hell.

[–] TraumaDumpling@hexbear.net 14 points 8 months ago (2 children)

same, i yearn for the mecha cockpit.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 12 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Shinji get out of the EVA unit you've been in there for 72 consecutive hours and you haven't eaten or had fluids in that time

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 1 points 8 months ago

Those are also filled with a liquid which makes it even cozier. If I could breath underwater I'd sleep there.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 11 points 8 months ago

I'd be stomping Zakus all day

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 16 points 8 months ago (2 children)

imagine having one of those nomad vans people like to make and live in but make it an APC or IFV. Also equip it with disco lights and a wild sound system that can vibrate the very earth as it trundles around

[–] Tervell@hexbear.net 16 points 8 months ago (2 children)

nomad vans people like to make and live in but make it an APC or IFV

the Russians actually did make a "what if a van had a BTR turret on top" vehicle, it's really weird (but neat) looking:

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 10 points 8 months ago

Point that thing backwards and fire it to go faster

I'm partial to armored cars, even if they're of dubious utility these days. There's just something really neat about big guns on a small chassis, although I can't really pick a favorite

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 11 points 8 months ago

i feel like 4th pic is cutest, small barrel

[–] TraumaDumpling@hexbear.net 12 points 8 months ago

tervell probably knows of better stuff to pick from but i like russian BTRs like the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BTR-90 (designed in my birth year even) but also the modern stryker-style IFVs that pretty much every country has a copy of (chinese Type-08 series vehicles are nice looking and with lot of variants for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_08 )

[–] livestreamedcollapse@lemmy.ml 9 points 8 months ago (2 children)

I'll take a truck with a 120mm mortar + laser guided rounds, a quad copter to designate for 'em, and an e-bike pls. I'd rather not get hotboxed by a hypersonic copper jet that I didn't see coming

[–] TraumaDumpling@hexbear.net 8 points 8 months ago

i wanna look my enemy in the eye (through a periscope). also an autocannon or missile launcher can optimistically take out aircraft. maybe put a big 120mm or less smoothbore in the turret (that can launch missiles also) for direct and indirect fire. plus no reason i couldn't put a mortar/drone team in the back instead of a standard infantry squad. armed trucks will always be cool tho i just want more hatches and periscopes around me personally. otherwise if ur going lightweight and indirect put whatever weapon system or drone launcher you want on a dune buggy i say. you just can't hotbox a sandrail as well.

[–] D61@hexbear.net 5 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

Can a truck's chassis even take the recoil from a 120mm mortar? I've been parked next to a 120mm mortar in an M113 chassis before and watched it kick the hull into the ground every time it lobbed a basketball downrange.

[–] livestreamedcollapse@lemmy.ml 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I think it'd need some hoist that lowers the baseplate onto the ground, but 105mm howitzers are being mounted on humvees with stabilizing jacks & I've gotta assume those generate a bunch more recoil

[–] D61@hexbear.net 3 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I've heard of towed howies... gonna have to look up technical with big guns...

Well, I'll be...

[–] D61@hexbear.net 6 points 8 months ago

Don't knock the old M113's. They're like the minivans/stationwagons of little light armored tracked vehicles. They aren't sexy but practical.

[–] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 24 points 8 months ago (2 children)

In my anarchist defense, it's much easier to procure a brick than a tank. But if a tank just so happened to be lying around...

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 15 points 8 months ago

Ima be the Oprah of tanks because you get a tank, your comrades get a tank, every leftist gets a tank!

[–] Vncredleader@hexbear.net 11 points 8 months ago

Yeah tbf I trust people with bricks more than tanks. Gotta train someone for the latter

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 23 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Comrades, what's stopping you from owning a a Dongfeng ballistic missile just as Marx intended?

[–] a_party_german@hexbear.net 18 points 8 months ago (1 children)

You call yourself "tankies" but every time I wanna post actual tank footage in the News mega I have to spoiler it with a CW?

Think about the irony!

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 14 points 8 months ago

Yes and I will do a mod abuse 1984 authoritarianism maneuver if you don't use that CW indiscriminately.

[–] Kaisen@hexbear.net 14 points 8 months ago

Tankies and brickies

[–] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 9 points 8 months ago

i like this lighthearted and funny meme because it is focused less on the particulars of political doctrine than immediate questions of tactics and warfare, even if in a frivolous way.

[–] Spongebobsquarejuche@hexbear.net 8 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Sorry to ignore context; what movie is this?

Every comrade deserves a tank but no one trusts people who auto-lock adc / dps, thus we go without and either have two hyper carrys, or it's a slow tortuous death and the auto-lock adc is 0 - 11 and the 'troll' adc who went 2v1 in the wrong lane was something like 8 - 4 - 6 (I was the troll, I trolled because they took the wrong battle spell)
