Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

MODERATORS

Republican legislators and interviewers challenging the president’s son on the House majority’s behalf would throw out an allegation, often one that’s been worn smooth after tumbling around in the right-wing media universe for the past year or two. And Biden would invariably swat it away, stripping off the layers of innuendo that had been applied by Donald Trump and Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) or Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) or any of myriad Fox News commentators.

Hey - quick question for those who make articles available as gifts.

Are you paid subscribers, or just email-registered? Are you limited in the number of articles that you can gift per week/month-whatever?

[–] aodhsishaj@lemmy.world 27 points 8 months ago (1 children)

You don't even need a gift. Drop the url in archive.is and you'll get past the paywall.

https://archive.is/ZveZv

[–] Fal@yiffit.net 3 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Archive.is doesn't work in Firefox. It never lets me past the captcha

[–] baru@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

As mentioned, check the DNS settings. Could even be in Firefox. I use Archive often from within Firefox, I don't have any issues.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 1 points 8 months ago

You need to add the following to the DNS over https exception list:

  • archive.today
  • archive.is
  • archive.ph
  • archive.li
  • any others they might use

I’m a paying subscriber. Also I sometimes run across a gift link already shared by someone else. I’ll cut and paste that link to continue spreading a good article.

Anytime you hit the paywall - take a look at their offers. 95% of the time they are garbage offers. But sometimes they are desperate to get subscribers and you can get a year for $2/month. Cancel the renewal and repeat. 😎

I subscribe to some, but mostly scraping them off social media.

I sharply prefer posting gift links to archive sites because they make it clear what the source is before people click, and some of the archive sites block people because they don't like their DNS

I can't believe I actually read the full transcript, but the interactions between Hunter and Matt Gaetz are hilarious

21 Mr. Lowell. Will the record show that we're all laughing?

22 The Witness. I mean, are you kidding me? No. I don't -- again --

23 Mr. Gaetz. So do you --

24 The Witness. I'm sorry, Mr. Gaetz, I'll take you seriously. And it's hard to do --

[–] blazeknave@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Page 120 good starting place

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 11 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Gaetz later tried to suggest that since Hunter Biden sometimes covered his father’s tab, that his and his father’s finances “were pretty interwoven.” (“Will the record show that we’re all laughing?” Biden attorney Abbe Lowell interjected.)

So my takeaway from this is that Gaetz and his cabana boy, ...er, sorry, his son, always split the tab whenever they go out for dinner so that their finances aren't interwoven.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Think of the horrible person that Gaetz is and them imagine what his parents and siblings are like. There is no way that these people are close or treat each other well. Gaetz can't understand that families can be close, supportive, and get along.

Decades of experience have shown me that conservatives don't show faith amongst family while liberals tend to invest in them. Conservatives can't fathom that some families are healthy and supportive.

[–] III@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Conservatives can’t fathom that some families are healthy and supportive

Only if they are white and conservative. If those two things are true they will never admit, regardless of proof otherwise, that such a family isn't perfect. If either of those points are false, to them there is no possibility that they could be healthy and supportive.

[–] TruthAintEasy@kbin.social 11 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Very good, the more I learn about Hunter the more I like

[–] rmuk@feddit.uk 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The fucker's hung, too.

Apparently.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

A dong majestic enough for Congress

[–] PrincessLeiasCat@sh.itjust.works 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Damn. He kicked ass. I wish I could be that cool and smooth in situations like this.

[–] spider@lemmy.nz 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I wish I could be that cool and smooth in situations like this.

Speaking of which, I miss this Joe Biden.

[–] arin@lemmy.world -1 points 8 months ago

Damn he already looked old af 15 years ago. Can we get a new Democrat?

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Now that was a very pleasant read.
