On Friday, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav gave an update on the next Game of Thrones spinoff series: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight (a title that seems destined to be changed to something that doesn’t have “Knight” twice).

“[Creator and executive producer] George R.R. Martin is in preproduction for the new spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which will premiere in late 2025 on Max,” Zaslav said.

The Hedge Knight is based on Martin’s popular trio of Dunk and Egg novellas, which chronicle the story of “Dunk” (the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Duncan the Tall) and “Egg” (the future king Aegon V Targaryen) as they wander Westeros having adventures roughly 100 years before the events of the novels.

The description: “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros … a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

Looks like hbo will try to have asoiaf treats once every year since there is the aegon conquest series and that the rumors of the animated one

Anyone else here that used to hang out on Freefolk?

[–] the_itsb@hexbear.net 16 points 8 months ago

'member when "kneelers" was slang for subreddits who banned mention of pirated versions of episodes before they were officially released

If you mean that meme subreddit ? Yeah. GoT during the golden days was good shit.

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 11 points 8 months ago

That's exactly what I meant. It was fun seeing it go from fun GoT memes to memes lamenting the downfall of the show and eternal ASOIAF doomerism.

Say what you want about the end of Game of Thrones but I really enjoyed the 1st season of House of the Dragon. Hope this turns out good.

Heh. What happened to HotD, anyway? Did they just give up on that?

[–] Comp4@hexbear.net 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Second season of HotD drops this year. Should be good.

Only getting eight episodes, though. So enshittification continues

and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory,

jfc

drunkenly, I submit

and the reality of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory,

or even

and memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from the living,

as less clunky ways to state that

did we really need to use the word "memory" twice in the same sentence in reference to itself

isn't this supposed to be a treasure of modern writing

[–] VapeNoir@hexbear.net 4 points 8 months ago

Or even just:

the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory

Real department of redundancy department hours

fleeting fucking moment i entertained the naive idea that maybe this the 18th spin-off, would maybe just be a TV movie

Egg is a good name for a gigant lizard.

I was wondering why the game of thrones subreddits and some of the defaults were lighting up with gambo again, guess it's all the marketing machines at work

I stopped watching Game of Thrones once it outpaced the books and I had no interest in the other show, but I've been hoping for a Dunk and Egg show ever since GoT was still good. Those were fun books.
