SOTD 19.02.2024

  • Prep: warm water
  • Razor: Headblade S4 Lunar Eclipse
  • Blade: HB 2
  • Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin w/ 26 mm Fan/Flattop
  • Lather: Proraso Wood & Spice cream
  • Post Shave: Phytorelax Headshave ASB

So today's shave was basically a repeat of yesterday. I brought the Headblade with me for convenience - the Proraso cream is almost empty, so I hope I'll be able to kill it while I'm over here.

1 pass, very fast but not super comfortable. Well, there's always a downside to everything.

2 passes. Face lather. Good shave.

u/VisceralWatch introduced me to Eufros. I'm so happy he did. I think that the soap and balm are of very high quality.

Most of the shaves I get from straights are "excellent" these days but this shave was "good" as was the last shave in which I used a stainless straight razor. Stainless has a dubious reputation in the SR community but I think it may have to do with how the material is sharpened and not the material itself. I think I need to adjust my technique for stainless a bit. Note that almost all DE blades are stainless and they do not hinder a great shave.

It's the 50th usiversary of this blade, and it's time for retiring it.

Have a nice evening! ~Shared via emacs & sotd.el~

Rinse, Repeat

  • Brush: Stirling Soap Co. Zenith Boar Brush 31mm × 50mm
  • Razor: Schick Repeating Razor Type B
  • Blade: Personna Injector
  • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. Varen
  • Aftershave: Stirling Soap Co. Varen
  • Fragrance: The Scottish Fine Soaps Company Vetiver & Sandalwood

First of a series of Varen shaves with my current go-to travel razor while on ski break. It occurred to me that I brought this poor, ring-of-deathed Dutch soap to the least Dutch place imaginable to proceed with killing it; a mountain. Oh well.

You can always pretend that it has been named after this lovely place. It also occurred to me that the Dutch don't thrive in the mountains, so it seems fitting to kill it on a mountain.

Lol, that lovely place is 16 km from where I am right now and I used to live right next to it during my internship for engineering school, which means that I should have thought of that convenient loophole.

the Dutch don't thrive in the mountains, so it seems fitting to kill it on a mountain.

Like Herakles with Antaios, one must hold this Dutch soap aloft, far from its low motherlands to drain its life force 🙂

By the way, I looked at Varen, but the following is rather frightening:

WARNING: DO NOT USE if you are pregnant or have epilepsy due to the oakmoss content

[–] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I talked to Rod about that. When you hear him explain it, it sounds much less scary. That being said, I had a sample puck of Varen for a long time, but that comment freaked me out enough to make me wait until Djunior was over a year old before trying it 😅

Someone in my family once had a seizure, so I'm a bit reluctant to tempt fate 😐

I totally get that
