One thing I like about Winnie, the Pooh is how they treated Eeyore. Even though he was effectively chronically depressed, his friends still invited him to their adventures. They didn't expect him to pretend to feel happy or give him a hard time about it. I think there's a positive message there.

That's probably because they all suffer from mental illnesses

In Dutch that's called gezellig. (Not a dutch person, just impressed with that word)

[–] StewartGilligan@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Am a Dutch person and can confirm. However, it's a word that has multiple meanings and cannot be directly translated. In the literal sense, it means cozy or quaint, but can also mean time spent with loved ones, meeting with a friend after a long time, or a general feeling of togetherness.

Is this related to the German word "gemütlich"?

[–] mowli@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

More or less, but German has the similar word “gesellig” which has the same meaning

[–] Lokoschade@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

I think it looks and sounds (if you pronounce it german) like "gesellig" which partially also fits with it's meaning.

How did you like the last season of Ted Lasso?

[–] dontcarebear@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Never saw it, but heard good things about it.

[–] HERRAX@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago

Just chiming in to say the show is very gezellig, and I highly recommend watching it when in the mood for some silly yet high quality feelgood.

It's definitely up there with the office and p&r for me!

Every other mammal on the planet spends most their time chilling, including the wealthy. We were tricked into accepting being conscious meat bots

This is D&D day. This is Coffee Day. Find a chillax group on a dnd sub and just hang out over discord or in person. Or invite friends/coworkers to the coffee shop. (Even if it means taking off your work shits and sitting bullshitting about shift. It helps decompress!)

This can be your normal, you make your own time. If you prioritized this you could sit around with Tigger and Rabbit too.

[–] pornhubfan@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 year ago

[–] michael@lemmy.perthchat.org 4 points 1 year ago

You don't need heating in the future mate, the globe will be hotter! Get some sunglasses instead.

[–] Steak@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago

The people actually doing it aren't here reading this that's for sure.

Always keep this simple fact in mind.

In 1960, minimum wage was $1.00/hour and the average US home was $11,000.00. $1 million was a vast fortune.

When ronald Reagan took office, 'middle class' was still defined as one job supporting a family of four.

By the time George HW Bush had finished his term, middle class was two jobs to keep the family going. And $1 million was what a rich guy paid for a party.

Just invite some friends over and let the internet be the internet?

I'm currently on my 6th callback of the night with a stacked ER. If you'd rather I do this than treat emergency patients, I'm down. I'm about ready to flip tables. It's going to be another night of less than 3 hours sleep, and then I've got two more day shifts and nights of call in a row before I'm actually "off duty".

The grind isn't an optional thing for a lot of us.
