This is Rome. They say all roads lead to Rome, but actually none of the roads in the UK do. So I had to book a flight to get here. So that sayings not even true is it?

[–] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 38 points 9 months ago (2 children)

She could have driven there with the Eurotunnel no bother, though! Bit of a ride bit doable.

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 42 points 9 months ago (3 children)

Everybody knows that goes to France and Rome is in Italy

[–] rtxn@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

You mean to tell me there are no road connections between the Eurotunnel's French exit and Rome?

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 31 points 9 months ago

Tell that to Cunk. Pretty sure her mate Paul went there once and he couldn't find it because all the signs were in french and he doesn't speak french, only english.

[–] rambling_lunatic@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 months ago

You can go from France to Italy.

[–] Michal@programming.dev 5 points 9 months ago

Euro tunnel has a train track not a road. You don't drive through it, you take your car on a train.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 16 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Don’t you guys have a tunnel?

[–] Michal@programming.dev 8 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The tunnel doesn't have a road through it.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago (2 children)

I bet you could get a car in there if you tried hard enough.

[–] Michal@programming.dev 2 points 9 months ago

You can get a car on the ferry or an airplane, that doesn't make it a road.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

That's just because Londinium Bridge Fell Down

I'm guessing it's a translation error: all roads lead away from Rome. It's an easy mistake to make.

Remarkably easy to read in her voice. 10/10

[–] pythonoob@programming.dev 3 points 9 months ago

Ikr. I hear it

[–] 520@kbin.social 37 points 9 months ago

This sounds like something Philomena would actually say!

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 37 points 9 months ago

We need more Cunk.

They also invented dictators!

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 9 points 9 months ago

They even invented the Romans

[–] spare_muppets@lemmy.ca 6 points 9 months ago

And organized crime

[–] Codandchips@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

What have the Romans ever done for us...?

[–] Heterocephalus@lemm.ee 3 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)
[–] Codandchips@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Ok aqueducts, but else have the Romans done us?

[–] VampyreOfNazareth@lemm.ee 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

All hail the Holy Roman Empire apparently

[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

That was more the Germans, the Roman Republic invented dictators.

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, the HRE was centuries later and way less cool. The only thing they had going for them was massive chins.

[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Thanks for the early morning laugh.

[–] MacNCheezus@lemmy.today 14 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Whoops, guess we'll have to boycott pizza and pasta now.

Potatoes for everyone!

[–] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 11 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Sorry, the potato is too german. We did a little fascism back in the day too, so that’s out as well.

Rice perhaps?

[–] MacNCheezus@lemmy.today 14 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Potatoes originate from South America though.

Rice is problematic because Japan had a bit of a fascism problem, too.

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Rice was domesticated in China and Africa, I think he might be ok on that front.

[–] MacNCheezus@lemmy.today 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Might wanna look up how many people died in China as a direct result of the communist revolution.

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Well, shit, good point. There was the whole sparrows thing too.

[–] MacNCheezus@lemmy.today 2 points 9 months ago

That reminds me…

Watermelons are safe.

[–] prayer@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Maybe they popularized fascism, but Marcus Garvey invented it.

[–] Heterocephalus@lemm.ee 2 points 9 months ago

Holy shit, don´t let the Rastafarians see this!

[–] checcco@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

But that's not Italy, that's Vatican city 😅

I don't see why it's necessary to use this format to attribute a person's joke to another person who writes jokes. Like, the original guy is a humorist. It's his joke. Why bring Cunk into it? I have nothing wrong with Cunk but this is a weird way to use this format.

[–] HAL_9_TRILLION@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

I'm not on xitter so I may read cues wrong but the way I read it, the person who posted the Cunk attribution graphic was basically just saying "lol this reminded me of something Cunk would say."

I feel pretty sure that would have crossed my mind too reading that.

[–] xantoxis@lemmy.world -1 points 9 months ago (6 children)

Sure, but it's also something the Brooks Otterlake account would say. I understand what the meme is doing, I'm saying it's unnecessary, in the same way these kinds of things do:

or adding "Nobody:" before your joke.

Just share the joke.

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Its unnecessary

Comedy does not follow logic or strict progression, otherwise every single comedian would be doing set up and punchline jokes and Norm MacDonald would have been shot in the head.

Comedy takes different forms for different people. Stop trying to press all comedy into your own personal mold.

[–] BluesF@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

The original joke is funny, personally I think imagining cunk saying it is funnier.
