Mist be pennies compared to sales

With 19 million sales, I figure they made somewhere in the region of $200-300 million first week or two. Half a million in server bills in that time ain't chump change, but yeah, they're still in the black for sure.

Yeah, that actually sounds astoundingly cheap compared to server costs for many other multiplayer games with comparable player bases/activity.

Official servers was a mistake. Should've let people host their own dedicated until full release at the very least.

Also who buys a survival crafter to jump on official servers right away? Savages, that's who.

You can host your own if you want to. Even has a docker image

Is it weird if I had no interest before but now I'm tempted?

It launched with a functional dedicated server. It also has official servers and local coop servers.

I think they mean instead of both.

I disagree, some would want to try it out before going through the trouble of setting up or renting a dedicated server.

They did have the option to host a dedicated server since the day it came out, for Steam users at least (Xbox Game Pass people are out of luck, but that goes back to the first point about "trying" Palworld first).

I don't understand. Are you suggesting a company sell an online-only game and provide no way to play online?

[-] sness@sh.itjust.works 3 points 7 months ago

It's not online only though.
