If only there were a more convenient way to express 0.1cm.

[–] ApeNo1@lemm.ee 29 points 9 months ago

2.0712373074578E-7 Leagues I find the most convenient and before you ask of course I am talking in Persian miles.

Unsolicited dick pics are generally frowned upon...

[–] moody@lemmings.world 13 points 9 months ago

It's approximately 0.00000497 Furlong

[–] 50_centavos@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago (2 children)

It's about 1/76th the height of a Big Mac from McDonald's.

[–] Everythingispenguins@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Big Macs are a measure of weight not distance. Though you can also use them as a measure of force as long as you assume they are in 1G.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 2 points 9 months ago

American or European?

[–] Jesus_666@feddit.de 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It's about one thirty-oneth attoparsec.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 2 points 9 months ago

If I learned something from star wars is that parsec are a unit of time, so get out if here!

[–] abcd@feddit.de 8 points 9 months ago

How about 6.684587e-15 Astronomical Units?

[–] dsco@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 9 months ago

200000 beard-seconds tall.

[–] crazyminner@lemmy.ml 70 points 9 months ago (3 children)

0.1 of a cm... Also known as a millimeter.

We have words you know.

[–] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 23 points 9 months ago (3 children)

For the yanks, that's 1/60000th of a washing machine

[–] Everythingispenguins@lemmy.world 6 points 9 months ago

But I need to know the length in first downs. Can you do the conversation?

[–] whostosay@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago
[–] Eranziel@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

What the crap kind of washing machine do you use that's 20 storeys tall?

[–] LengAwaits@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

It's easier to represent as 0.000001 km, imo.

[–] threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I really think 0.000000001 Mm is clearer.

[–] RandomVideos@programming.dev 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I prefer (3^2 -2^3 )^(1/2) /(10^9 )^-3 +(74^57 /2^37 /37^2 )/(2^20 *37^55 )-1 qm

[–] w1Ldc4rD@lemmy.world 32 points 9 months ago (3 children)

Why wouldn't they just say a millimeter? .1cm is something a non metric user would say.

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 3 points 9 months ago

I think you’ve answered your own question!

[–] frunch@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

As an imperialist, i would have opted for 1/256"

[–] ThatFembyWho@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It's common for scientists to prefer a decimal point in their measurements because they are inherently limited precision, but "1 mm" leaves some ambiguity as to whether you meant 1.0 mm or 0.1 cm. It's a matter of significant digits, since leading zeros are ignored.

[–] monk@lemmy.unboiled.info 2 points 9 months ago

It is literally prefized with "roughly".

[–] imPastaSyndrome@lemm.ee 16 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Tiny mushrooms spook me because all I can think of is them growing inside my lungs and on my body hooking me into the network

[–] Entropywins@kbin.social 12 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Eat a bag of psilocybin mushrooms and think about why being plugged into the mushroom consciousness scares you...

[–] imPastaSyndrome@lemm.ee 8 points 9 months ago

That... Sounds like an awful thing to do

[–] Asudox@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Both cute and deadly probably.

[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 6 points 9 months ago

But you'd probably have to pick quite a few to get poisoned, if it even is poisonous :)

[–] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 6 points 9 months ago

Hey there little fun guy!

[–] Supervisor194@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

Let's play a game! It's called "Psychoactive or Deadly?"

[–] Talaraine@kbin.social 4 points 9 months ago

That's just about how small I like mushrooms cut in anything I eat.

[–] AnarchoSnowPlow@midwest.social 4 points 9 months ago

Looks like those trichomes are starting to go amber, it's about time to harvest!

[–] VelvetStorm@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

If you are interested in this kind of stuff this is called Macro photography and it can be very complicated or confusing when you start but it's very rewarding and after you get the basics it's not hard. For some truly mind blowing photos I suggest you check out Alison Pollack on Instagram she has placed in several world wide macro photo Competitions and she specializes in fungi.

[–] MrFunkEdude@piefed.social 3 points 9 months ago

ok but how does it taste?

[–] agent_flounder@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

0.04" is about 3/64"

That's damned tiny.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 3 points 9 months ago

Found the American! Now do feet, thumbs, eyelashes and football fields...

Gas fuck? Where?

[–] YoFrodo@lemmy.world 0 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Isn't it slime mold and not a mushroom at all?

[–] Bubs@lemmings.world 5 points 9 months ago

It's a mushroom:

Mycena subcyanocephala is a species of fungus,[1] which has its habitat in the tropical parts of Taiwan. It has been spotted eight times. Mycena subcyanocephala is one of the smallest mushrooms in the world, with buttons about 1 mm tall. The species belongs to the Mycenaceae family, with Mycena interrupta being its closest relative.

It isn't, but you're right that slime molds can be this cool!
