Copyright != Trademark.

You can't copyright the letter R; but you can trademark the specific R logo they use.

These look distinct enough that I would hope a judge rules against Take Two on this.

My bad, don't think I appreciated the difference.

My point still stands though. Can no entertainment company ever use an R in for their logo without risking the wrath of the T2 legal team? Seems like a ridiculous claim

It might end up similar to the word edge, from what I remember it is somewhat held as one of this things and the person holding it throws a fit ones in a while, when someone else uses the word, like with Mirrors Edge.

I am not that read up on this though so I don't know the current status of the word.

Clickbait article, it concerns trademark, not copyright.

It's still stupid. How can they trademark a letter? The font doesn't even look similar

A trademark is a way to protect a name/brand in a specific sector.

A company can even trademark a colour in a sector if they want, this often applies to hues of colours that makes up a big part of the brand.

The same applies to logos, and since a brand can be a specific letter like "R", that can be trademarked as well, however, that won't prevent other companies from using names that contains or starts with an "R" and trademark them.

As for if the logos look similar, I think T2's lawyers believe that featuring a large single "R" on the logo of a computer game, is too close to Rockstar's logo, and since both logos are used in the computer entertainment industry, there is a risk of confusion.

The article never says copyright either. That’s entire OP
