It's worth noting that the top 100 games do contain a lot of popular multiplayer games, and multiplayer games are less likely to work on Steam Deck/Linux due to anticheat issues. So games outside of the top 100 will generally have a higher compatibility rate. For comparison, only about 5% of the top 1000 games are broken on Linux according to Protondb

Almost all the non working games are due to anti cheat or are online only games. Two aren't anti cheat, but also aren't games. In other words there's only like 3 games that are single player that don't work.

I also think it's disingenuous to say they don't work on steam deck, as installing windows would solve the issue

It's a Linux issue overall and that if I was a betting man I'd say we're just a handful of years away from that being solved.

Depends. I don't know if kernel anticheats will ever work, but I also would refuse to install any so it doesn't really matter.

It's a Linux issue overall

I'd argue it's a developer issue, since they're the ones refusing to support Linux

Installing windows is lame and ruins the console like experience that helps make deck popular. Also, the anti cheat won't be solved until Linux anti cheat is used by the games and no sooner. That won't happen until a lot more people are on Linux.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

In case you missed it: the Steam Deck recently crossed over 13,000 games rated at least Playable.

Checking via the Steam Deck Verified rating (either Verified or Playable), and then the ProtonDB rating across Platinum - Gold - Silver - Bronze or Broken / Linux Native Support for desktop Linux.

From top to bottom based on peak player count, here's how things stack up with this snapshot of Steam's most played taken on January 5th - 2024, 18:45 UTC.

Overall we're seeing 75/100 at least rated Playable on Steam Deck and 78/100 work on desktop Linux with a Gold rating on ProtonDB or higher (or the game has official Native Linux support).

At least 12 of the Unsupported games are due to anti-cheat issues, although some like SMITE do need a re-check from Valve.

Anti-Cheat continues to be a major source of annoyance for Steam Deck / Linux gamers overall.

Honestly amazing. Not the type of compatibility I'd expect to see before the deck launched.
